Astron billet cylinder head
Re: Astron billet cylinder head
One other question, what are those threads on the exhaust side next to the spark plug ports?
Re: Astron billet cylinder head
If you cut up a standard head you will notice that there is no water getting to the top near the exhaust ports this creates a steam pocket and contributes to the heads cracking in the exhaust ports so Paul pushes water in there to help with cooling the exhaust ports.
Billet rockers are easy and have already been done just most won't pay what they cost.
Camshafts is easy billet rollers can and have been made but once again most can't justify the cost.
Cheers Mic

Re: Astron billet cylinder head
If you dont mind, what would a set of mechanical billet roller rockers cost? For 1 - 10 sets?
Re: Astron billet cylinder head
I will talk to Paul and find out do you want them with elephants feet or are you going to source your own?

Re: Astron billet cylinder head
I was gonna stick with the standard lash adjusters. They work great for me and many others, I just want to go to Roller rocker lobes. I was thinking of just filling hydro rollers and drilling them out for the mech adjusters.

So impressive. I was blown away when I saw this thread!
Good news for us Astron Drag racers!
I have to go lie down now. My head is buzzing with the possibilities.

That is a brilliant bit of foresight in the construction of these heads. So they need to have an external water gallery/pipe to thread into these?mic_77 wrote:If you cut up a standard head you will notice that there is no water getting to the top near the exhaust ports this creates a steam pocket and contributes to the heads cracking in the exhaust ports so Paul pushes water in there to help with cooling the exhaust ports.
Re: Astron billet cylinder head
You don't have to have it plumbed that way it is just there for added security in saying that most of Paul's setups now have electric water pumps so it is easy to plumb in 4 braided lines to push water in.

Re: Astron billet cylinder head
Hey Mic, has Paul had one of these running yet?

Very soon he is dummy fitting the motor at the moment to sort out the front engine plate, external oil pump, vacuum pump and fuel pump with a bit of luck it will be running in the next couple of months will be good to see what it does on the dyno.

Re: Astron billet cylinder head
Should be awesome. See what these bad boys can really do.
Hopefully all goes well and he can start pushing it hard.
I don't know how the C4 is going to handle it, might have to go turbo 400

I'm sure he wouldn't muck around if it wasn't worthy. I guess I just don't have much faith in them after a mate of mine had an expensive C4 behind his 20b (8 Second car) and it kept breaking over and over. Was a well known builder too.
