Buying a starion

Post by 75glnt »

Ok... I'm seriously considering buying a ja starion. 2.0 sohc turbo, 5speed.

What should I look out for? I know how to spot a pos but I'm talking these cars in particular... Odd spots they rust? All those kinds of things.

Common spots for rust are the bottom of the front guards (like nearly all mitsu's), the bottom of the doors, the rear quarters just below the b pillar vents, and the worst spot is under the windscreen air vent panel, where the passenger side wiper mounts. There may be other spots as well, but these are the main ones I know of personally.

Ah ok. I've done some asking around, and from what I've been told by people who have owned one, they rate them pretty well. They are fast and fun to drive. Most regret selling them. I figure, if its not got much rust and runs well, go for it :)

Yea there's only a small but of rust on the inside of the door at the bottom seam. Only enough to discolour the paint a little.

But I've been thinking hard. It's $3.5k for the starion... Or put that into the ute.. It will be good enough for what I want. And I've already got my toy :) my gb sedan

So also if I get the starion... It's goodbye ute. Having 3 registered cars which 2 are daily drivers.. Is just not a smart choice.

Maybe another time? But thanks for the info guys!

i have a ja starion.. as mentioned.. bottom of both front guards is common, the front of the vented ja bonnets in the middle also rusts a bit.. (mine is really bad). Also possibly under the rear windscreen.. but other then that they are pretty good from what i have seen. They do go hard even for a centrepoint injection setup.. but i'm currently in the mpfi swap for it to get some more ponies and a smoother more reliable ride. But for a 30yo engine they are still a 4g63t and rate them high!
