Keep it clean gentlemen!

I decided to do a bit of a clean up of some of the parts I've hoarded in my shed and nearly missed this opportunity to take pics of a sure fire, bottom dollar technique of cleaning those engine components that put up a fight...

The ultimate cleaner for $3!

Half of rocker cover inner sprayed -

98% of laminated oil removed on the first pass with a tooth brush -

And the rocker cover completely stripped back to new -

This rocker cover had been sitting for 10 years, now check that out!

The one I used is a non caustic, fumeless cleaner that contains alkaline salts. It is safe enough for the user to spray onto their hands without fear of skin damage. The instructions say to leave on for an extended period of time but I got the crud on the rocker cover to break up in a few minutes with the aid of an old toothbrush. it sort of congeals the laminated oil into gravy as you scrub it. :| I tried foaming mag wheel cleaner but - 1: didn't work nearly as well as this stuff, and 2: the mag wheel cleaner is 3 to 4 times more expensive. I have also sprayed it directly onto paint in my engine bay and appeared not to affect the paintwork (in the short term anyway).

Hey geezer......bought the wire brush and BBQ hot plate cleaner........works a treat!!!!!

Although it hasn't come up as clean as the rocker cover....i'm gonna try Mr Muscle once the BBQ cleaner has been used up

I'll post up pre and post pics of the calipers once they are done (i'm doing Falcon and Commodore calipers dressed up as FPV and HSV)

Once again.....thanks for the tip
