4G32 solex/ mukini twin carbs close up shots and info......

Post by 75wagon »

Just in case anyone is interested.
Here are some close up photos of my Solex/ Mukini Twin Carb set up.
They are 28-32DIDSA-A1 (Twin) as apposed to the standard carb 28-32DIDTA-9(M/T) or 28-32DIDTA-9(A/T)
They have smaller jets and a softer spring in in the depression camber that controls the vacuum secondaries.
I've included technical Info from a book that I have for those that are interested.

Does anyone have a spare set of these lying around? Maybe even the original air cleaner?

They're not overly hard to find ... I have a set gathering dust in the shed, plus I know where there are a number of other sets.

They are just the same pretty crap carb as stock of course, only you have 2 of them on the car !

Just my opinion of course ... certainly they are better than a single stock carb, but the advice I have been given by Dinta Officer (and few people know more about building quick Galants, at least for rallying) is that a single 34ADM is a much better option than the twin Mikuni/Solex setup.

The genuine aircleaner assemblies are pretty hard to source in my experience - and the elements even more so - but I don't know why you would bother, unless it was purely for the sake of originality ? The intake on the stock assembly is pretty small.

I am considering trying a pair of 32/36 DFV Webers on the twincarb manifold .... Dinta reckons it might be better again than a single 34ADM. Only way to tell will be to do it & dyno it, I guess.

That's pretty much the reason I want the aircleaner, originality. I used to have one but sold it with the car, bad mistake (selling the car at all)

One more point.
These carbs sound good on a 4G32, be the judge yourself, come on the Sydney to Newcastle cruise.

Yea, was a set on ebay not long ago was going to bid on them but the
seller withdrew them from sale, some blokes like to put socks in their
shorts I would prefer a pair of monkeys (mukinis) under the bonnet of my
70's mitsubishi (for the right price of course).

Does anyone have any idea of the availability of rebuild kits for these? If I understand correctly, the kit for the single 28-32DIDTA will also work, but seeing as the only listing i can find on ebay is $84 deliverd, AND I would need two, are there any other options that someone could direct me to?

Yes the single kits are the same. I have put them through mine.

I saw a kit on there just the other day for $48.

I bought mine from Repco (before I got on the net) for about $60 each.
You can do better then that if you shop around abit.

This is some info I'll have to look up again in the future. I am thinking about putting a 4G32 with twin Solex or Weber into my Lancer. It all depends on how rich I am at the time.

the twin downs are a cheap option, and easy to find and get parts for.. any motorbike shop will have jets for them for about 5 bucks a pop..

Can't find that in the Manual at the moment, but isn't it a WO22S?

I may release PDFs of the Mitsubishi Celeste/Lancer Station Wagon 1980 Workshop Manual (WE890346) and the Mitsubishi 4G1, 4G3 and 4G5 1979 Workshop Manual (WE780576). I'd rather people go out and buy their own, but they aren't that easy to find/afford. But will release the PDFs for reference till a hard copy becomes available.

One thing I did notice is that the Aus-Spec Lancer LC's 4G32 has the same compression ratio as the 4G32GS, but with single carbie rather than twins.

Thought I'd share some pics of a twin setup that I SHOULD have bidded on while it was still on ebay.

They were only $150, and it would be a start. It'll be quite a while before I'll be rebuilding the 4G32.

Don't bother with those old bits of junk. Ask yourself why no one used these since the 70's? For what these would cost you to get completed and reconditioned you could buy a new set of side draughts or quad throttle body Efi, both of which will get more power and the same sound as the antiquated down draughts.

Thanks for your opinion Galant_GTO.

If everyone had that opinion, these cars would already be at the crushers.
This topic is for those that want info on the carbs, if you don't want a set, then don't buy them.

I have them on my car because they are period correct, I don't care if webers, EFI or anything else would make it go better.

The Sigma GN I have, I am after more power with that, hence the EFI + SC. The Lancer LC on the other hand, I want to keep it stock, and any 'upgrades' I'd want to be from the same time. Hence EFI is out, and a stock twin downdraft carbie setup is in. I like EFI over carbie, but setting up a 'stock' carbie engine for the LC would keep it original, and also will teach me about carbies, which I know very little about. If I wanted much more power, and stay with the same displacement, I'd get an EFI setup off a 4G37, or try and squeeze a 4G92 MIVEC into the LC.
