Will it fit??

Post by slugma »

Hey guys, im in a bit of a hurry to get a head to fit my car, but not real knowledgeable in mitsi's.
Just wondering if this would fit my '83 GJ 2.6 Sigma?
Ive used the search feature many times, but it has made me even more confused!
There is so many variations, and they all seem to be interchangeable, but with wot mods??
All i know is the head on my car has a 6 on the head between No. 2 & 3 exhaust ports! No 'M' just a plain old '6'
If someone could give me an idea of what would bolt straight on would be awesome!

if the rocker cover is anything to go by that is an astron 2 (post 1980 astron) and will work perfectly.

Thanks buddy, I was hoping it would!
I was told around $3-350 to replace just the exhaust valves,
But it could soon add up if there are other problems.

I paid 400ish for a reconditioned one from city dismantlers. which is perfect exept for a leaky welch plug. but 400 is about the most you should pay for a re-co. ring around someone might have one they are sick of having on the shelf. basically any head from a gj-gn (note late gns have hydraulic valves) will fit and astron magna heads will also fit

I havent taken them apart so I dont really know how they work  they should bolt on with no probs and you dont have to adjust tappet clearances on them. but better ask someone who knows a bit more if there will be any issues.

do you mean M2 or astron 2? dunno which model corresponds to the m2 I would guess it was an early magna. astron 2 is anything astron post 1980 (GJ GK GN) also triton and pajero. its easy to spot
astron 1 rocker cover (note the fins and the push in oil cap)

astron 2 rocker cover (raised section at the rear screw in oil cap)

I'm not sure either, in the ad he says M2, but in the pics its definitely an astron 2 rocker cover.
After looking at those pics, mine is an astron 1.
So is the astron 2 head a direct bolt on for an astron 1?

Yes AND no.

Yes it is a direct bolt on to your block

No because your inlet manifold won't fit.

You are better off looking around for a reco'd Asstron I head or a RWD Asstron II head with inlet manifold. I am pretty sure all RWD exhaust manifolds use the same gasket.

Bugger, im pretty sure he said he had the inlet manifold with it.
I gotta ring him back after 3 so ill double check with him then.
Now thats got me thinking, what about the exhaust manifold?
Will the original air cleaner still fit?
Will my carby still fit?
Far out, this isnt as easy as i thought!!!

Exhaust is the same Astron I, Aston II and Magna
Inlet is different from Astron I, Aston II and Magna

Carby will fit
Air cleaner will still fit on carby but Ass II rocker cover doesn't have the locating bolts to secure the air cleaner. Just get a ramflo filter from supercheap or something.
Exhaust manifold will be fine.
He does say in the ad he will chuck in an inlet manifold so you will be okay .............. should be okay, lol
