Collision safety tests?

First of all, sorry if this is the wrong sub, don't know if it's "technical" enough

But I was wondering if anyone knows wether theese vehicles have ever been given an official safety check or collision tests back in the day? If so, how their scores were, compared to other vehicles of the time.

The reason I am wondering is that i have some family that really hates my '79 Siggy in fear of me having a collison, and I am just looking to comfort them. (A '79 Volvo 240 would apparently be perfectly fine)

Thanks for any help!

i would imagine they wouldnt be the best in an accident as they are full metal and dont really have anything designed to properly absorb the impact over transferring it into the cabin.
I am also now curious though!

There were some tests done, I have seen a video of a Sapporo being hit in the rear as part of a crash test. That being said they probably won't be as detailed or as easy to find as newer cars.

Even if you could find results is not going to make an ounce of difference to the fact that these cars will never be as safe as a late model car with features such as airbags, etc.

With the advancement in technology even 5-10 year old cars are considered poor in comparison to a new car so what chance does a 30+ year old car have?

That being said I still believe the biggest factor in safety is the driver. A careful driver that knows how to handle their car, drives to the conditions and keeps their vehicle in good condition is going to be much safer then the lunatic in a late model car doing double the speed limit, weaving through traffic with bald tyres and worn out brakes.

Yes they were tested........scores were a pass lol

Seriously though, if they comparing the sigma to a more modern car, then they'll never look good....

I always say..."the best safety feature any car can have, is an educated and sensible driver"...and I'll stand by that comment with anyone that argues against me

Best thing I did to improve my own saftey on the road was a defensive driving course.I dont know what they call them in norway, but driving a car isnt worth it till you complete one.Saved my life and others as well as millions of $. Its worth doing.
