I just need to know how the timing is setup, adjusting cams, distributor, etc.. TDC, just new to timing. Engine: 4G54, without silent shaft.

The picture is helpful, but on the gears i have are no alignment marks, so im not sure where to set the cam to

On the very outer rim of the cam gear just before the teeth the should be a small dimple, maybe 2mm across. This needs to be at the top when the crank is at TDC.
I have a few cam wheels around, let me go grab a picture

Okay awesome, that clears that all up, what is the oil capacity for a 4g54 Engine? Out of a 1985 Pajero.

I did what you said about the dimple and, put that at 12 oclock and the crank at tdc and it appears to be backfiring out of the carby

Did i mess up or is my distributor firing at the wrong times and igniting the fuel while that pistons vavles are kpened to exhaust?

Sounds like the dizzy is 180 degrees out

It will backfire and carry on even if it is only one tooth out on the dizzy.

How can i test that?

On top dead center on the crank markings, its on either fuel stroke or exhaust stroke, not compression stroke, does that mean i have wrong timing chain setup?

You want TDC on the compression stroke. This is when the pointer on the front pulley points to TDC..and both valves for #1 cylinder are closed. TDC on the compression stroke the valves will be partially open. Once you have TDC compression stroke you need to find the marking on the dizzy for #1 cylinder. If you line up the dizzy so that it is at about the right angle to install in the head..just a bit right of centre near the cap mating surface you will find a marking that indicates the #1 spark plug lead location. To get the rotor to point to # 1 (around the 12'oclock position) after the dizzy is fully seated in the head ..you need to install it at the 2 oclock position. The gear on the dizzy will rotate it back to the 12 oclock position as you push it home. Install the rotor..replace the cap and If you firing order is correct..and you have fuel.. it should start.

technically they never need doing

but for assurance......id check the tensioner every 12months...and replace the chain on every rebuild
