Now having problems with starting engine... have to hard start and when its running..sometimes the engine dies when im not steppin on gas or while on neutral, also ive noticed that the engine changes its sound when im steppin on brakes...could it be the carbs or the hydrovac or both?thanks for you opinions my friends...

Hmmm, I'd be leaning towards a possible timing advance/retard issue, since the problem happens at start and when running. Have you confirmed you have the right timing (5 deg btc)? This would be the first thing I'd check. If the vac advance had issues, it's more likely you'd experience problems when accelerating. Do tell more...

Having said that, I am having similar issues, that I'm positive is a vacuum leak, but possibly somewhere inadvertent (like in a secondary diaphragm) that I haven't got around to checking yet.

Have you guys put in big cams in your cars????

If you have, you may have gone too big and taken up all the vacuum inside the booster (hydrovac)

But also, can you guys smell raw fuel at all, neither of you have mentioned it.....you may be flooding the engine...or starving it when it's under load

Check your fuel line installation - it is really easy to get them mixed up from the fuel pump. If the carbs look like they're not getting fuel it will be a fuel supply problem...There can be a number of issues that will cause an engine to be difficult to start or 'dies' while it's running. Also try taking the brake booster hose off and blocking the barb on the inlet manifold - see what effect that has.
