VIC October 2013 meet and/or cruise! CONFIRMED

Post by BAD-SIG »

So now that I'm finally getting my other Sigma on the road, I would like to start organizing cruises/meets again for us here in Victoria. Please post here if you would like to attend and also suggestions on location, date, time, format, etc for future meets. Please use the format below so it's easier to read and for me to gather information to put on this first post (the ideas below are just suggestions).

Facebook event for this meet: https://www.facebook.com/events/599852466728217

Location: We will be meeting at the Bunnings carpark in Melton, on the same spot we met last year. We will be parking in the parking spaces closest to Barries Road, near the second entrance to the carpark. That's the quietest part of the carpark and there are always quite a few parking spaces there.

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=bunnings ... 35&iwloc=A
149-169 Barries Road
Melton VIC 3337, Australia

Date: Sunday, 20th of October (confirmed)

Format: meet at 12pm (lunch time) at the location above, leave at 1:30pm once everyone has arrived and chatted. We can then discuss if anyone wants to go for a drive to say St Kilda Pier or any other location. There are a few petrol stations not far from the meeting place and there are also a few fast food restaurants and a large shopping centre very near. So you can either bring lunch with you and eat while you chat to other members in the meet or we can all go together after we meet to Maccas or something.

Attending:

BAD-SIG (Fabio Caris) - GE Sigma SE

Here is a bit of a background story on me, what happened to my old blue Sigma, why I've been away so long, etc.:

For those of you who remember, I used to run and organize our cruises and meets here in Victoria from about the year 2002 until about 2006. Back then I was driving my light blue 1979 GE Sigma SE. Here is a photo of it in it's hey-day:

Image

After a truck ripped the front bumper off in 2006, I decided to pull it off the road to do a ground up restoration with my dad's help. Not long after, dad sadly got cancer and died a couple of years later in 2008. So I kinda left the poor Sigma sitting on the front lawn for all these years and the weather has taken it's toll on the car's body, leaving many fist-sized holes. Here is a photo of it now, before it got towed away to car-heaven:

Image

So, after missing my dad for so long and missing driving and working on the Sigma, I decided it was best to buy a new one in better condition. So back in 2011 I found a local, one owner, 1978 GE Sigma SE, with only minor rust in the boot and roof due to vinyl roof. And so the process of fixing, modifying and improving it began, doing it to the same formula that I had modified my blue Sigma, except I decided to keep it as an automatic and not convert it to a 5spd manual like I had done to my blue Sigma. So now that the car is finished, it's time to take it out!

Right, so basically only one person besides myself can come, so I'm cancelling this September one and getting started on an October one. See first post if interested.

Perhaps people are not so keen on cruising and parking in formation...?

That's fine, that's why I said all suggestions are welcome, it was just an idea. Heck I'm even up for just meeting somewhere for lunch or a coffee!

Should be a good day . Very close to home so will ride my push bike.
Don't think its the place for my Lancer being fully imported from Japan.
Sigmas and Galants maybe OK

Pretty sure your Lancer will be fine mate, lol.
Think about it, it isn't going to be a show full of VC and CM Valiants. Most of the competitors will be imported, Cuda's, Challengers, Dodge Chargers and more.

Yeha the Mopar shows (at least in Vic) are rather evenly spaced out in terms of model variety.....However, I do feel sometimes that it is difficult to get included into a group like this...........

They are usually only enthusiastic of ppl that run "hemi's"....not just a chrysler

Well ive just been down to the gardens only to find the heaps of Capris and Mk 1 Mk2 Cortina's down there .
I just thought the Chrysler show was today.
Still some very nice cars down there, always had a soft spot for the English Ford.
Got there early , cars still arriving as l left.
Going to our footy day at our dog club

Oh yeah im well aware of that....but this what i've found

If you join a Ford club...............then you're just as welcome if you join a GT or a base model '85 Festiva
If you join in a Holden club.........then you're just as welcome if you join a Monaro or a base model Camira

If you join a Chrysler club.......you're more welcome if you join a Hemi Charger as opposed to a Lancer/Galant
There was one club in particular where I felt that a number of it's member's weren't really interested in cars that aren't "Hemi" powered

Just my feeling

I've always wondered how accepting the Chrysler guys would be of our rebadged Mitsubishis. Shouldn't be a problem really since our cars were indeed sold through the Chrysler dealers and most were even assembled along side other more american Chrysler products. And yes the Astron engines are real Hemis (and were even marketed as such overseas) and the Galants, Lancers and even GE Sigma wagons and Scorpions were also sold in the US as Plymouth and Dodge cars too...

Oh yeah I'm not saying they are bad clubs or that you get rejected or anything like that.....it's just that some these "die hard Chrysler fans" only look at 'real' hemi's like the charger, pacer, AP5/6.

I found that if they don't know the car and/or it doesnt run a "hemi" 6/8.........then they are very reluctant to know more about it...that's all
It's age old conception.....the minority ruin it all for the majority

It's why i wanna build a Sigma GSR wagon out of a GE/H CHRYSLER wagon....so I can enter all their Mopar track days in a car that's dressed like a Mitsubishi l 8o| :P

Yep... And because of my experience with the minority. I want to build a galant that will kick a "hemi". Which really isn't that hard. Unless its an e38 spec 265 with tripple carbs. They're surprisingly rather quick

Hey Bad-Sig, is the Melbourne cruise a go for the 20th mate?
Mike (GB_BB4C) are thinking we will drive over in our hardtops (my A112H and his A53H)

Obviously this is going to take some planning and probably time off of work so we need to know pretty much this weekend if it is a go-go?

Cheers

I was hoping to get involved with this and meet some vic members. I'm pretty doubtful though as I have friends visiting that weekend.

I might be able to pop out and say g'day at the meeting point though, depending on where and when it is.
