show me your door mirrors

Post by kenvv »

hey guys, i need new door mirrors for my gc sedan. but im having some trouble deciding wether to mount them on the fender or the door or what shape or style to get.
also do you have them on both side or just the right? i currently only have one on the right.

so show me some pics to give me an idea of how your varieties of mirrors look/sit on your car.....

cheers in advance

Here's my wagon.
Has twin factory mirrors in the standard Australian position (front of doors)

Here's a Japanese Twin headlight wagon with fender mirrors.

Also have a look at this thread Original Brochures for GALANTS (GA/GB/GC/GD ONLY)
There are plenty of pics of overseas models to see what options they had.

i dont have the original mirror on my car dave. but i like both the mirror on your wagon and on jasons coupe.

i found this link in the ebay thread which i was considering. similar to yours dave i guess but quite cheap and easy to get hold of. what ya think?

i looked up some gt replica mirrors but i dont think they quite what im after if this is what ya mean. cheers Nath76LA

GC sedans and wagons were single headlight, GC hardtops were twin. All GD's were twin

There are a few good looking mirrors on eBay at the moment

They aren't bad. The same mirrors are in Autobarn for $29 (I saw them the other day). I do prefer the original stainless ones over the plastic copies though...

The GT teardrop mirrors actually look quite good and suit older style cars quite well. I've seen the on RX3's etc... My brother has them on his Mk2 Cortina too.
They are diecast aluminium (which is better then plastic). They are expensive but worth the $$$ I think? At least the wind doesn't re adjust them for you while you are driving. They are like a more modern mirror where they are protected by a solid outer housing and only the mirror itself moves.

GC's (single round headlight config) were an Australian only model. No other country has a Galant with that grill. There is another single headlight front that came on the Mk2 Galant (GC/GD shape) but it's headlights were closer together and does not bolt onto a GC without modification. I know this because I have an American GT Grill and it does not fit on my wagon.
GC hardtop/coupes had twin headlight front (like the GD).
All GD's had twin headlight front.
All GC/GD hardtop/coupes were imported, and the wagons and sedans were assembled in Adelaide.

Yes my wagon is a GC.

welll you guys have obviously been doing this for a while. ya know your stuff. i didnt think about the cheap plastic moving in the wind. will take all your advice in mind when purchasing some soon. cheers

also i was under the impression fender mirros were illegal which was half my reason for being hesitant with them. or atleast illegal in SA or are we exempt under a classic car rule or something as obviously other old cars were factory produced with them. other hesitation is the pain in the ass having to get someone to adjust them for you.

I am not sure of the legality of fender mirrors to be honest. I think with a nicely presented 70's car you can get away with little things like that.

fender mirrors are legal, only if they were an option on the car
