Hi all, heres my new GC Galant auto 1600, im the 2nd owner from new, sat in this old ladies garage for 18 years after her husband passed and shes payed rego every year since. Picked it up and drove it home! has a few minor problems as it would for sitting around for that long!, major over heating issues! got the radiator recored, new water pump, had to drill and tap the intake manifold where the water line goes in had corroded off..so far the only mods ive done are the repairs which im still doing! and white wall flappers..next mods are lowering it and possibly an engine conversion..

That is one very tidy Galant! I probably wouldn't do any mods to it other than fixing it since it looks great as is.

Are you still planning a V8 conversion for this?

It's your car so do what you want with it, but it's very tidy and very original.
Saying that though, I myself have no interest in a bog stock standard Galant. I have no problem with lack of power, but for me the stock wheels just don't do it.
At the dead least, I'd get those rims widened so the tyres get as close to those guards as possible

Heres a quick pic of the interior, sorry its poor quality..still keen for the V8 conversion..might happen later down the track, i just want to enjoy the car as is for a while bit of a daily driver.

Bit of an update the motors getting pulled out by the weekend, theres major corrosion on the outside of the head and theres water pissing out into the exhaust, possibly head gasket, corrosion and cracked head will either rebuild this motor, or might go for the 4g52 for now, does any one know if they bolt up to the existing auto box? any help would be appreciated..

Great score mate! that is definately the definition of neat! I agree with what was said i am not overly keen on the full stock thing... I like the sleeper look with power, and i like the neat and slightly modded (ie wheels and ride height) stocker... But at the end of the day yoou have to be happy with it so just make it how you want! Either way keep us updated cause that is Galant Porn and pics are always appreciated

I have the standard KM132 that was originally behind a 4G32, but now has a G52B/4G52 in front of it. A narrow 4G54 would also fit.

Pop the head off and have a look at the rear water jacket, it is a common corrosion point.
I might just need a head? But if it's been like this for a while, it's most likely going to need a rebuild.

4G32 1600's are narrow block.
4G52 2000's are narrow block.
4G54's come in both wide and narrow block.

Bit of an update, the 2.6 is now in the car and i cranked it over last night, like to say thanks to Andrew and Steve for the motor and parts. Just need to wire up the alternator, put the exhaust on and drop in the radiator, ill post some pics up this weekend when its all together.

beautiful galant, mate.
Great colour- looks great against the chrome and suits the whitewalls perfectly.
If you did go down the route of widening the steelies as suggested it may look a bit like this (Still keeps the character and looks essentially stock but greatly improves the stance).

FYI the front is lowered approx 30mm and the rear barely at all -maybe 10 to 15mm. Rears are widened about 1.5in while fronts i was lazy and just offset them..

Looks cool with a wider rim, can you do us a chop with Rota Shakotan wheels? and lower it abit more, keen to get a set.

Yep, no worries- i'm in the photoshop mood.

lowered more and widened the rears even more so they're flush with the guards -they're probably 7.5 or 8in wide now. Tried to put a little stretch on the rear tyres.
Images are from 15x7 Rota shakotans so if you were able to get 7.5 or 8s on the back you may have a bit more dish.

I think I like it with the white walls. The mags look good but the rest of the car is too stock. I think widened stockies with full trims would be the way to go. Seen the pics of the metalic GD sedan? the paint is awesome but the wide stockies set it off.

Yeh runs fine mate, had to change the fuel pump wasnt working, got a flexplate off a mate, and a few other bits and pieces off gumtree and came together. yeh i work in belmont ill drop past one day, might be interested in some of the other stuff you had anyway.

Yeh looks better with the hubbies and white walls, love the look of that GD. might just widen the rears.

Running the stock Galant ones, need to replace them pretty bad. do they even make the strut tops anymore? is there a similar one like off a datto maybe?

You need the Galant strut tops even if you are running Sigma struts.
Sigma and Lancer hatch strut tops are 4 bolt not 3.

I sold a good set recently, I also bought a new set via a group purchase from Malaysia (over a year ago).
As for being sold new in Australia I don't know?

Quick update,

Installed a new Ally radiator yesterday, had the tail lights painted up in course metallic silver might have the outside blacked out tho not sure if i like them like this, lowered it as much as i could, needs coilovers as the shock is almost bottomed out on the front, installed some cheap datto adjustable strut tops..heres a few pics.
