Without wanting to be rude ...... it looks like a death trap to me.

- An incomplete, unbraced rollcage is not only ineffective, it's actually far more dangerous than nothing at all.

- Harness shoulder straps should be mounted virtually horizontal (certainly no more than 30-40deg below that). Mounting them as you have is a guaranteed way to compress your spine in an accident.

I hate to rain or your parade mate, but safety equipment like ROPS and harnesses needs to be done properly or not at all .... they aren't for "show".

thanks for the info
but the pics i have up of the roll cage was before the installation
that was just when we was fitting it up the cage not the finished product
the complete kit is now installed
with under chassis brace connected the cage points
is there any other info i need to know about the cage ?
its an every day street car so did not want to go with the big weld in cages like rally or circuit cars
thats why i orders the cusco kit for the Mitsubishi evo3 lancer as it was the closest fit

for the harness i guess ill have to see if a can get a cusco cross bar fitting

Yes I totally agree with you Dave.

If the roll cage and harness aren't done correctly then yes, a stock one is less of a death trap. It is for these reasons that it's illigal for a road car to have a roll cage and harness in NSW.

If it's a street car, there is absolutely no point having a cage in the first place (or harnesses for that matter).

It's just a personal thing, but I am really against having cages, harnesses and the like "just for show" in street cars .... because it makes things much more difficult with the authorities for those of us who have a genuine need for them.

the reason we put them in is because street cars do get into accidents and a car like this is not as safe as a new model vehicle
so most times if the accident is bad and you end up on yur hood then you can get crushed
and we can have cages in our street cars in this country, the feds dont have a problem with it
so what you are saying is that the cusco bolt up cages are no good ?
im using one of these kits
http://www.cusco.co.jp/en/parts_product ... _cage.html

and the reason i uses the harness is because its easier to get than a galant seat belt in this country, so i guess ill have to set it up the way you said

but can you please tell me how the cage should be done?

from trinidad and tobago nice I was in trinidad in 2009 it was awesome and also sweet ride mate its looking like its going to end up being an awesome car. All those that are picking on his roll cage give him a heads up of whats needed to improve he has asked several times to no avail and I must say when I was in trinidad a seat belt in the car was over the top safe so a roll cage is perfect for there for there isn't much in the way to safety and amazing how many accidents I saw the week I was there.

I'm not saying the Cusco cages are no good ... never heard of them, and have no idea on their design specifications etc. I'm not an engineer, so I won't pretend to advise you on how to fit it.

My only suggestion would be that if you don't understand how it should be designed & fitted, then you should get an expert to do it for you (seriously). A badly designed & fitted cage can turn into a cabin full of steel spears in a serious accident. That's why there are very strict rules on the design of competition safety cages, especially the design of the joins. There's nothing wrong with bolt-together cages, provided they are done properly.

Just as an example, you could have a look at this ...... http://www.camsmanual.com.au/pdf/10_gen ... J_Q111.pdf .... which is the requirements for safety cages for motorsport competition here in Australia (and is fairly closely based on the FIA specifications (the FIA ones are even higher spec than this).

One thing you really SHOULD do though is fit a diagonal brace either in the main hoop, or between the rear braces. Note - the back seat becomes unusable with any properly designed & fitted cage.

hey thanks for that link
Cusco bolt-in cages are one of the leading street cages for Nissan, Subaru, Mitsubishi and many other jdm's and euros according to ppl who use them for light Motorsport, thats the reason i purchased it

The only thing missing is the cross bar behind the seat ( thats because i ordered the 4 door full passenger capacity cage)
but the cross bar can be added as a bolt on for the cage
there is also a bar that runs aside the front seats from the front point to the mid point on the cage
you think i should get these add on bars ?

thanks for the info guys :)

This is how my cage is (Cusco 6 point)

To my mind it should have a diagonal brace in the main hoop as well .....

(By the way, I wasn't "picking on your cage" ... it's just that your original pic showed a 4-point cage with no backstays, which IS highly dangerous)

I was actually trying to find this last night but wasn't to sure where in the CAMS manual it was.
