LA Lancer 1974 2 door

Post by DanTurboLancer »

Hi guys this is my Newest addition.

I didnt do the paint and interior, bought it off the guy that did.
Some may recognise it from Fast Fours alittle while back.
Although it looks good from afar, im not overly happy and need alot of work to get it upto scratch.

To be honest i wasnt a fan of the Purple at first, 2 pac with 9 different metal flakes, but it does look great in the sun, and its begun to grow on me. But its still too flashy for me.

And the Cream Interior and Honda Prelude seats, im too scared to sit on without a cover because im always dirty lol.

He spent $$$ on the body and Interior, and engine rebuild.
To make it look good from a distance.
But alot of the other stuff is just slapped together.
But i bought it expecting to spend some more.

So thats why it is in the Build section.

The under side was total rubbish

So far I have Redone all of the rear suspension.
All the Rubbers were GONE some Literally.
It was wallowing around, and would axle tramp, and try to roll the leaves under acceleration in 2nd and 3rd. and axle tramped like mad, and the Leaves on the Passenger side at front leaf mount were clunking when you went from forward to reverse,
Because there was no rubber left!

So it now has Reset leaves, extra Leave added, and all new rubbers.
Its slighty higher now, but so much more comfortable, and direct ride, really turns in now.

I swapped the chrome 17s for my Alloys.
and painted all the brakes and suspension.
I think the Black looks alot better than the Yellow they were....

Next weekend is the Front suspension, again slighty Higher But Thicker Springs, stiffer Shocks,
And much more comfortable ride. Its all but bottoming out atm.

Plenty of work ahead, but still way infront compared to getting the rusty 4 door upto this point....

As advertised on web...

Ok latest, Stock diff decided it didnt want to play anymore, and packed up its bat and ball.

Id planned on an upgrade, but was hoping for alittle later down the track.

So i got in touch with a good mate that enters Tuff Truck comp
and he put me onto the GQ Nissan Patrol diffs.

They run a stout LSD stock, and come in 3.9:1 similar to my stock, and then have various lower ratios of 4.1:1, 4.3:1 - 4.6:1 ratios
Thick as buggery axles, infact the axles are bigger than a 9"!

but if any problems do arise, because these things are so available,
you can buy upgraded clutch replacements kits
and they are making even stronger billit axles, and bits and pieces!

You can buy cheap mini and full Spools, or go with an Airlocker set up.

You can see the Physical size differences between the Stock Lancer, and GQ Patrol Diff,
these Axle are 10mm thicker Diameter than a Ford 9" and you get LSD for around $500 !

man i work with v8 supercars and top alcohol dragstas and seeing a la coupe is what gives me a chubby that said
i dont want to knock your car as it looks excellent ;)
but that exhaust manifold is terribly restrictive and wont ever make big boost
put some helicoils in your stripped threads.
i know at this stage there is no option but good things come to those who wait :D
im on the case ,and soon manifolds for all

thanks guys,
Yeah as i said i didnt build it, so no im not sure what the flares are, but if you look in the,
Members rides section, a fella by the name
'Dang' has posted pics of his Race cars, and they are sporting the same flares, i have sent him a PM asking what they are and where to find them, ill let you know if i get the reply.

And yeah Stealth, im looking forward to seeing your Turbo Exhaust manifolds, when you get them made and tested and for sale.

In my car personally, I was told by a tuner that he wouldnt be able to get 400Hp out of my Exhaust Manifold (again i didnt get it made, came on the car, and i would be open to buying a new one if it freed up easy performance) but im not looking for that much anyway.
So id be happy with anywhere between 250 and 300 in a street driven car that only weighs 800Kg.

Im more looking for response than all out HP.

Cheers Dan

Re: Lancer Flares

Post by dirtjockey »

I've got a lancer which we are rebuilding - as a part of the rebuild I'm building a new set of flare moulds (same as on the purple 2 door) - I'm not sure about those, but most of these flares are crap, they come out of one mould and are not correctly symetrical for the front/rear & left /right, I'm building at least 2 moulds and potentially 4 (one for each corner) this enables you to get a true matching set that tapers the correct way for each guard - I'm also contemplating building the mould as a 2 piece which would allow for a flat inside section, nice smooth rounded top section instead of a bodgy cutoff piece of fibreglass that you need to cover with rubber edging. I could make some more if people are interested - I'm imagining they would be around $150 - $200 a set.

I've also got some moulds that we have already built for the bonnet and the boot (although I'm not planning on using a fibreglass bonnet or boot - I think I'll stick with steel) I'm north side of Brisbane so if anyone wanted to come and have a look that would be fine.

thanks

LOL Yer thanks for that, learnt my lesson last time

It goes in no worries, i had it mounted in the 4 door, just alittle more working of holes,
and bolt on the angle plates.

Only prob is i cant have the front grill in,
but the small plate ontop is for the bonnet catch, so it all works well

ahh ok sweet.
The Hydraulic Clutch pipe was covering the number.

And the paint has covered the numbers in afair bit.

Its definitely A72
A72 - 00536_8

In the dark with the torch im not 100 % on the 3 and 6 and cant make out that 2nd last number....

Does that mean anything?
Ill have a good look in the sun when i get the chance.

Im trying to remember what you said about the Significance of the A72 compared to A73...?

Damn there were alot of Variations i never knew about there!
Cheers Stealth.

Well i took her for a quick runs down the shops last night.
And on the way back stopped at a set of lights, not another car in sight,so i couldnt help myself and did a small heel toe.....

Broke it lol.

Its blown an oil line to the Oil cooler, and sprayed oil friggin everywhere.
Luckily it didnt catch fire on the Turbo.....

But that does it, im sick of the slap together job this blokes done, im doing it properly!

So it will be alittle while coming, the funds are alittle low after the diff, but hey its a project/Money pit lol.

----------------------------------------

Here you can see the Oil lines havent been flared and are held on with cheap ass Hose clamps.
And this is how i found the hose when i removed the Air filter, completely blown off...

Image

-----------------------------------------

You may not be able to tell from first pic, but the oil is Everywhere!......

Image

Image

Image

------------------------------------------

So ill pull the front end out and redo it properly!

Last time she will look like this!

Image

---------------------------------------

Rubbish pile..

Image

Gives you an idea of how restrictive this was with the weld job...

I didnt have the engine built, so as far as i know its just a stock water pump.

The radiator is bigger than standard, old owner was a Boily so he had sectioned a small part of the Sway bar/castor rods brackets,
and its a Sigma Radiator...

No overheating probs at all, so far (Touch wood....)
Ill have to see how it goes with the Single fan, and the Cooler infront...

Yeah mate i know the car personally he got that car off my father same years ago.I did the cut and shut on the inlet manifold(But not the intercooler lines)He was always wanting my engine bay setup and i was wanting his paint job(not colour).Gus did spend a shit load of cash on the wagon but he also had other people stuff him around telling him that he needed shit that he didn't really need just to get money from him.

[quote="mick"]Yeah mate i know the car personally he got that car off my father same years ago.I did the cut and shut on the inlet manifold.

Oh good stuff!

Yeah i believe him when he says he spent about 35.
haha and i agree about the colour, not what i would have picked

But as you said, i think he didnt know enough about what he was getting himself into and spent wrongly, and yeah doing things afew times with what different people have told him....

The intercooler was diferent from the Mag and when i bought it.

He originally had a different computer, (Motec i think it was)
And then swapped to a Microtech (in car now)

So yeah just spending unwisely....

Nice bloke but!
