Thanks guys, getting there.

Yeah Dean ill be there, if with out any unforseen probs haha

Thanks again Stealth, That Turbo was leaking oil into the housing as it was sitting!
Just idling it was smoking up and burning oil inside the turbo...
Turned the bearing housing vertical and all good now! :D

Fixed the Oil return plate today and all up and running tonight.

Finally driveable again

Well the latest is ive been pulled over,
and the police didnt like the look of the Front mount intercooler, so i have been sent to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

I have been dealing with the EPA,
and getting it all ok for pollution controls...
Which were all above standard of course... lol

A quick reminder of how it looked...

Image

I cant understand why i got pulled over...

So pulled it apart again,

Image

Refitted the old FMIC and painted the plate that holds the Oil cooler so it didnt stand out too much also.
best part is the Grill goes back in so looks much better!

Image

I needed to make a spot for all the Hoses for the recirculation hoses to meet...

Image

Image

Here it is getting the Exhaust noise level check,
96DBA was my max
I scrapped in at 95dba!

Image

Full EPA details at...
http://www.sigma-galant.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2107

Oil pressure issues arising after the oil cooler hose blew off will mean the motor will have to come out soon...

Its like anything mate, how hard do you want to drive it, and what do you want to do with it??

The old owner drove it reasonably soft,
Just enjoyed easing the throttle on in 2nd and 3rd and feeling the rush.

Me, i like to drive hard!

------------------------------------------

In my last 4 door, the Stock diff lasted quiet awhile,
Then i put in the 2litre Turbo
then it started playing up so i welded it,

Lasted a fair while till i sheared the axles off in the Centre.

Problem there is finding a replacement!

So i went to a Sigma Diff, Welded it,
Same thing, Sheared the Axle off in the centre

Put shards of Metal through all the gears and bearings.

So i put in another centre and left it an open wheeler,
Sold that diff and it had already started to twist the Axles!

This car, the stock diff lasted the old owner,
me 1 month.

and i hadnt even dumped the clutch!

Just like every driveline, it will all depend on how the driver treats it.
Its a 30 year old Diff, designed for a 1.4 litre daily shopper...

If you decide to upgrade, go for reasonably thick axles,
thats where i had most of my problems?

Cheers Dan

That gives me a little mroe confidence. I'll be driving like a old man for a while :)

Well finally some progress is happening.
Thanks to all this waiting for the EPA to make a decision.

So after 8 weeks i got positive information that Pod filter had to go,
and the Manually adjustable Fuel pressure Regulator also had to go.
(They know how to spoil all the fun!)

So i had a look in the engine bay, and made some measurements and realised i had.... No room!

Driver side
Image

But fortunately, my Battery is fitted in the boot, so i had a corner...

Passenger side
Image

So i headed down to a Wreckers on the Central coast (Budgiewoy)
and looked through EVERY single make and Model on the 20 Acre property.
I had my measurements, and knew it was going to be a tight squeeze,
So i was leaning toward betting on a small FWD car.
But then to also find one that didnt have a Factory MAP or MAF sensor already built into the Factory airbox...

And this is what i found
(im devastated, but its the only thing that would fit i swear haha)

1996 WB Ford Festiva....
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Trial Fit
Image

Doesnt quiet Fit properly so will have to look at cutting across the bottom, then Fitting some mesh in...

Not sure if you can make out the Red line..

I will buy and fit a New Panel Filter and see how far down it goes before i start hacking into it.

Image

And then i will most likely get some 2 inch Stainless pipe and run it across the Front of the car, Between Radiator and Rocker cover...

And again searched every make and model for a Fuel Pressure Regulator that would suit my Modified Fuel Rail,

Image

But almost every make and model have theirs as part of each end of the Fuel Rail...
Until i found the VL.

Image

Image

Image

----------------------
Image
----------------------

So a VL Commadore Fuel Pressure Regulator, does anyone know how many Bar of pressure they run at Factory?

And just to make sure of the flow direction,
Does it have to be run in this direction from the Fuel rail in, going to Return line back to Tank?
Or doesnt it matter??

45 Divided by 14.7 = 2.8(ish) Bar, so that sound right to me!!
I was hoping for a 3 bar but this will have to do, it only has to run for the tests

Rego is locked in suspension,
Im not loosing any rego!
But i cant sell it, i cant swap it into someone elses name, i cant even wreck it becasue it would mean swapping the rego to the Wreckers...
So they really have me by the short and curlies atm.

So seeing as the rego isnt getting wound down, the donk is coming out for a rebuild,
photos to follow
Aim is to get it on the road for next cruise

its taken so long, eventually when its all over and done with and your car is on the road one would think that you would be ,or should be compensated. Youve paid your rego and now you have been inconvienced for this long.........any lawyers on S.G dot com ? (probebly not hay, lawyers dont drive sigmas do they).

Well finally some progress here.
Pictures pretty much speak for themselves.

Arrows pointing to spots where Head gasket let go(abit hard to pick with this photo)
Image

You can see the bad scoring in the bores

Image

The Bearings...

Image

Image

Image

Abit of a concern was the amount of metal flake on the Main bolts

The only thing i will give the last owner credit for, he did tell me had the motor rebuilt.
and yes it does have New timing gears and chains etc.
Image

Crank does look like it has been machined as he said, but still needs a touch up.
Image

Pistons do look ok, apart from the rubbing.
Image

Ahh well off to the bank for more money...
It was slapped together, the guy who put this motor together, you wouldnt feed him

One thing i am interested in,
What is this hole that is behind the Timing chain?
Im assuming its for the oil return galleries and feeds oil down into the chain and gears?

It looks pretty dodgey to me,
Should it be cleaned up with a die grinder?

My first thought would be to clean it up so no casting flash, etc breaks off. But then again if it was going to happen it would have probably done so in the last 20+ years.

It probably wouldn't hurt to clean up the edges slightly anyway. One less thing to slice yourself open on while you are rebuilding it.
