ok so firewall below LH plate that covers the air vent grill hole thing (where the water sprayers are) has rust, not much but really awkward spot and its deep. looks like lh chassis rails may have some but nothing deep because i removed all the bolts that hold the quarter panel on and there is no rust in the bolt hole. will have to have a decent look tomoro.

then just the usual places, quarter panels etc etc, but not much at all becuase was rust proofed when bought, the receipt is in the glovebox haha

also notices that the venitian is powdercoated steel hahaha, no wonder its in good nic..

you know what im talkin about when i say the interior looked like it had been sat in twice in its life hey..

found a bit of rust tho, like on the car body where the door seals sit, and in firewall and stuff.. will do assessment tomoro and take all pics

but seriously the engine is so quiet, like a good 60 dB quieter than my current GC with g32b

So are you happy with the purchase? Has it met your expectations?
I know it's always hard when you are buying from pictures.

The interior in quite tidy. The rear guards seem to be quite good, but there does seem to be a bit of rust in the doors. What are the outer skins of the doors like, any bubbling?
I wouldn't worry about any of the rust in the engine bay, it seems (in the pics) to be mostly surface. But I suppose further investigation will reveal what's going on there.

Is that a factory option tape deck?
The other thing I expected to see was a console mounted clock.

Congrats with the purchase, glad you finally have it.
Now let the fun begin

yea im stoked with the buy hey. Really happy. I got a quote of 900 for the rust behind the lh rear door, in front of rh door and bottom of drivers door. Or i could buy a oxy set up for 500ish and try it myself..

Yea i expected to see a clock too, but no. I have a spare tho..

And yes factory deck. With fm haha. Woo. And the speakers are on the parcel shelf.. Pretty cool. They are concealed under sheepskin which is what im thinkin for the future or somethin similar? Any way i have some high res pics for the paint later on, so i can attack the rust under the decals in the door arches. Will have a look deeper tomoro.

It looks pretty good to me for the age, a fair bit of rust and dent work has got to be expected but it isn't that bad.
I can't wait to see you rip into it

yeh same here. the wire wheel and drill are coming out tomoro. i bought some fish oil, rust converter and white knight rust proof etch so will dig deep tomoro and hope not to see much more than what is visible..

there is only 2 dings in the car, the LH front guard i will probably just swap off another, and i have a complete LH rear section that i could weld in but i dont want to cut out much so i think i will just get it banged out and fillered up..

there is no rust in the door skins, but im thinkin with the doors i might just take them off my GC? we will see what the rust is like..

GC i never took anything the wrong way, i know where ya at

I would pull everything out, take heaps of photos as you are taking things out, fix up all the rust, and put it all back together exactly how you found it. Even as is, it looks pretty good. It looks like I have worse rust in my Sigma GN's front quarter panels than what this Galant has. It would be good to see it restored to as-new condition in stock colour, interior etc. Having a perfect interior, you are half way there already.

yeh thats what i wana do, but i wana get it repainted the same colour. in saying that i cant exactly afford it and it will mean minimum 12 months off the road. its really tempting coz look at my GC, i said i would prime it then do paint later. never happened... but now i have this coupe i want to do up aswell... gahhh. have to CHOOSE

Nice work Shuggy, you're really getting stuck into it!
Where did you go to get rust repair quotes? -i need to get a couple of spots on the wagon looked at.

What are you gonna do for the plates- can you keep em NSW? In a way it'd be a bit of a shame to lose the original plates.

Also got my hammer out and tapped the guards into shape for 3 hours today, they are quite straight now and just need a light bog and sand..

also paintd all the exposed metal sections and because noone gave me any advice on welders i went out and bought a nice good refurbished set. should see it monday
