Triton magna EFI build

Post by sigtool »

OK So
i have a 96 triton with 422 thousand on the clock original motor and she is very low on compression and just started making the lovely sound of a big end knock.
so for a temporary fix going to put another half life motor in it till i biuld the EFI Motor
i have a new m7 head so thats sorted just need a fresh bottom end to bolt to
im going to try to reuse the triton block if i can or i have another astron 1 block around here with clean numbers
im going to purchase a doner magna and swap everything over it will be stock as a rock no fancy turbos just as i was from factory.
i want know
- if i put in a set on new pistons can i reuse rods and pins?
- can i use any crank magna triton or siggy?
- do i buy new standard rod bolts main bolts etc or can i reuse?
- should i use magna or triton pistons?
- do i need a lift pump and surge tank can i put in a intank pump?
- do need to get a motor builder to check over the block or is it fairly straight forward to do myself?
- should i get it profesionally honed or can home jobs be just as affective?
more questions will come when i run into them
ill keep a track with photos ect.

cheers

-when you buy pistons thay will supply pins and reuse rods after getting
them close and honed
-yes any crank will do
-get arp rod bolts there cheap insurance
-magna pistons are flat tops (not all so get the right ones
-no you dont need a surge tank intank pump will do
-and yes get it honed professionally or risk blow by
and are you still chasing a manifold rwd conversion done?

got a new radiator massive dent in the budget for that one but it was repair the old one which was shagged anyway and have no garentee or bite the bullet and go new.
the interim motor is in and working got back from northern nsw to brissy a ok needs a tune and what not.

now the old engine is home tommorow ill wash it and start dismantling. :D :D

It is Finally done Triton running on EFI with a few gremlins but looks awsome
specs aint exciting
-crack tested block all checked over and cleaned
- linished crank
- new pistons to fit 1mm overbore
-original rods
- new bearings rings ect
-brass welch plugs allround
-late model magna head new valves double valve springs
-TR injection and standard computer
-extractors to standard exhuast.
-standard fuel pump and tank from MK triton 97-06 bolts in the same no mods

few tips i found
have your fuel rail shortened by 10mm or massage the firewall with a hammer before the engine goes in.
if you confident re-loom the wiring harness unds up far neater
get the magna manual from the post on here print out the bits ya need ie electrical fuel ect comes in handy only cost $20 at officeworks.
get a whole magna and take the bits off saves you trips to the wrecker for little bits here and there.
test and check ever component from the doner car im having issues now becouse i didnt my doner barely ran when i picked it up.

Did you use the fuel tank from a 2.4 mk triton? have ya had any trouble with fuel or anything? im gathering all the bits and pieces to convert my triton to efi and was going to do the whole surge tank and pumps option until i saw your posts!! sounds like an easier option
