mate its all good its your car and you only have to listen to the advice that
you think is good
that said i dont think that a 4g63bt is that harder mod i put one in a la and
yeah it bolted in (on custom engine mounts)and made everything from there
and no there not a standard part on the engine but still no biggi just depends
on who you know and what you can do, i consider it an easy conversion compared
to a mitsi v6 conversion which is do-able
most people here are geniune and like evl076 sayes will lead you down the path there
taking or there are a rare few like galantman that have tryed just about everything,i know
im almost there on the la lancers
ow and if you dont want to cut a weld why acid dip you opening a hole can of worms there!
cheers stealth 8-)

Thanks for the assistance Stealth,

Had a chat with a forum member today in person (don't recall his handle) but I am pretty solid on a plan of action now which wont involve acid dipping and does involve an Astron 1 2.0L Sigma engine which will seat nicley on the engine mounts as is and a 5 speed Manual (preferably with turbo) I will attach a Early Magna head to it for better air flow and will have to mod the EFI manafold for the GA, use the breaks of the sigma. Purchase a computer and almost home.

Additionally a diff will be required later if i am to hard on the standard diff in the GA, I will save repainting for the last task.

So at this point I am going to be on the hunt for a 2.0L sigma, I think GH model?

It was a lot to take in, I will do more research later tonight.

Only if its a narrow block, I have just taken a 4g52 weber and cam/km132 5spd out of mine. Mods for it included: modified gbox crossmember,A Sigma one with extensionson each side, and body mounts for it(on c/rails), moved forward. Hole in floor (G/stick) cut 50 mm longer to rear of car. No rad fan/spacer.(2X10 inch thermos instead). top rad outlet moved to end of tank and 45 degrees to clear dizzy. I "3" cored my standard galant rad. modified exhaust engine pipe. Also, you might need a surge tank set up if you cant get enough fuel to it. I had issues with donuts and stalling LOL. it all in action in a private court :D

The front right brake caliper is "stuck on" i'm told it is seized but the wheel still moves slowly, i suspect its grabbing more than it should, does anyone have a link that shows how to unseize it as i was hoping to re register the car so i can drive it to places for works or quotes etc

Please, No dodgy stuff when it comes to brakes....Take the caliper off and take it to a brake place to have it rebuilt.

Re: Project 71

Moved house this weekend and now have a dedicated project space.

My lower front end is in focus now, i think this is a good time to update my plan for my GA.

At this time there is a brake issue which I will be taking my old calipers to a brake specialist to recon, depending on price. I am aiming to get the GA road worthy and registered before attempting to add any new modern engine (but will be chasing the parts).

My first problem will be that on inspection i have found that the Ball joints (rubbers are broken) need replacing, will it be easy to replace these? can i do it myself? Should i replace (can i buy?) complete tie rod ends etc? I was told and read in my Galant manual to inspect these parts for fatigue?

Thanks

The ball joint are pressed in.. but you can buy them from anywhere. Make sure if they are directional that they go in the right way. I had a bloke stuff them up once.
Directional ball joints don't move 360 degrees. They only have a slot for the centre of the joint to move instead of a full circle motion like normal (sorry, it's the best way I can describe it).

If they can afford to advertise during Bathurst and pay for Russel Ingal then they are making enough money and are not supercheap. Besides, all they sell is crap, what happened to the auto parts shop where you could actually buy auto parts??? Not just crap seat covers and chrome hubcaps, lol

Rant over, LMAO

PRESS BALL JOINTS IN!!!!! NEVER USE A HAMMER, WE ARE DEALING WITH LIGHT WEIGHT JAPANESE HERE, NOT FORD OR HOLDENS. THERE IS A MINIMUM PRESS PRESSURE. 5 TONS, I THINK. ANY LESS AND BALL JOINT COULD COME LOSE AS IT IS NOT RETAINED TIGHT ENOUGH. DO YOUR PIVOTS WILE YOUR THERE. COST ME $40 AT LOCAL PEDDERS TO GET THEM PROPERLY DONE (ball j), AFTER I TOLD HIM WHAT HIS GUAGE ON HIS PRESS WAS FOR!!!!!!!!!

We have Sprint Auto Parts here in SA and you can actually go in there, ask for a gasket set, and get it, lol. Most Supercheap type shops wouldn't know what the fuck a gasket set is. Let alone have one in stock. I tried to buy new engine mounts from a Repco last week and was told the supplier did not stock any for GC/D Galant. Wankers.

Priced tie rods and other misc parts for the steering, end cost is $200.00 from repco which i think is good pricing; have someone chasing cheaper pricing

Dropped off the front GA calipers off to a brake and clutch company, roughly $120.00 per front caliper to get them recon. $25.00 for a wheel cylinder for the back brakes.

I am trying to get the front break lines off (rubber) ended up stripping the soft "nut" on the end of the pipe, cannot budge the nuts at all. got some vice grips on there and it stopped rotating but still no budge.

Starter motor needs the solenoid replaced i am told, I have a spare starter motor but I cannot get the top bolt loose, it "cracked" but still wont budge any tips? I have enough leverage but no movement.

The calipers have been sent off to be sand blasted, I managed to get a complete brake line off the car with some assistance and a pair of multigrips; I have taken the break line into get two made up for $44.00 each.

Having some trouble with the ignition and starter motor, hopefully resolve these issues tomorrow.

Will be going to wrecker tomorrow and test the crank of a 2.0 Astron and if all is well will pay $100.00 for the engine.
