Re: 1985 GK GSR Project

Post by 81GH »

So lately been mucking round vr4 standard computers,
so out of interest i thought id check the Magna ECU in computer.
because all the intermittent problems I've had since the EFI conversion :
really hard to start at times, sometimes won't at all
when stone cold revs to bout 4k till warms up
backfires through airfilter ocasionally
after warms up idle cuts out itself

thought most of these problems were cam related
but maybe not
took ECU out of car, could smell the dreaded fishy smell, before i opened it (bad sign)
Image
Image
Image
as can see the caps have been leaking, and think started to eat away board, i will try clean up at work
and change the caps, but think the boards beyond repair but will see

maybe have to have another dyno run when get it sorted, and see if any improvement on power.
cos i'm thinking should run alot better when sort it out.
anyway will see what happens, but probably looking at getting another ECU would be easiest way out
spose good in away, found the heart of most of the problems i think.

and with caps removed can see the tracks on the board are stuffed.

so ended up getting another one, they had so many tr's at the wreckers over 10 i reckon.
but only 2 had same comp as mine, i didn't know for sure if they were all the same, they look the same inside i think
so just got the same as i had, although both had been worked on before, i wanted a virgin untouched one

so does anyone know the differences?
Mine had bosch part no. ending in 021
lot of the ones there had bosch number ending in 046
is there much differences
most were autos but think there were few manuals for memory
they also had 046

Thanks

I don't believe there was a difference in the ECU's between autos and manuals They just ground the A2 connection (Park/Neutral switch for autos) in the manual ecu's. There was a minor difference between the TR and TS ECU's, the TS needs a knock sensor.

Cheers.

was misbehaving a bit this morning at first though.

she didnt come upto bad apart from the stuffed front end and gaurd
still looking for decent panels :(
poor siggy's been shed ridden for few months

hey all been awhile since ive done anythin with sig pig. Hopefully get bak into it sometime in the new year.

First thing i need is a surge tank for fuel what do ppl recommend? Or should i just ebay it? Or does it depend on the fuel pump u have. Also dont have alot of boot space plus the battery is in there.

Does anyone have an older haltec comp they wana sell?

Yeah, it's the same as what is in the PWS.
Need a lift pump to fill the surge tank (low pressure, high volume) one that is suited for a carby (approx $50, i use a FuelFlo brand one) bought it from

Continental Trading & Agency Pty Ltd
12 Bailey St, St Marys, SA, 5042

Then just run ya EFI pump off of the surge tank.

Which Galant... Got 5 now. 3 sedan's and 2 coupe's

I am pretty sure it is 1.5lt tank so a little smaller than a 2lt coke bottle. Has a base plate to bolt it down and a mount for the efi pump. I will find you a pick.

Thats it in the pic above but not with that pump. Just a normal facet pump to feed it.
They are both brand new. The tank has never been used and the pump was used for 3 start ups of the hardtop, comes with box and instructions.
