71 galant w/ 4d55 engine, project

I posted here ages ago when I first got this car, and was still thinking about rebuilding the engine. Since then I have purchased a 4d55 turbodiesel engine. Bought it in pieces because why make it easy on myself. Anyway, got it sleeved and surfaced, 4d56 head on it, putting it back together. Had to get a new turbo.

It had no oil pan or pickup with it, but I found them, will be blasting the rust out of the pan this weekend, then all sorts of timing belt and balance shaft madness will ensue. Hoping to have the engine in the following weekend.

Been a long drawn out project but I am getting more progress done recently than I have in a long time. Good feeling!

I'll do my best to keep this updated if anyone finds it interesting.

Still to go:
-Fuel cell in trunk (apparently no lift pump necessary on these engines)
-new fuel lines
-find a radiator that is half a millimeter wide and fits... probably aftermarket honda civic half-radiator
-find suitable oil cooler
-sort out wiring for injector pump
-have driveshaft machined

Possibly do an intercooler, stock setup did not have one.

And hopefully get some mitsubishi galant 1600 emblems for sides and the grille one. Anyone in AUS want to trade for dodge ones =]

Here is one pic for the thread, and a link to a folder on my google drive where I can put the rest. They don't let me do direct links for a forum I guess.

More pictures. New head, cracked turbo housing etc.

This is awesome, love the car and I love the engine choice, I had wondered how a 4D5x engine would fit in a galant, guess now i will see.

Cheers and goodluck

Progress always seems to end up slower than hoped. Anyway, pan is blasted, timing belts are on.

So, now comes the fun. I am in the process of sourcing the alternator and starter, as RockAuto is out of stock of both. Probably going to run some NGK 12v glow plugs instead of the 6.2v ones with a controller box that was there originally.

Still searching for people on various forums to give me some hints on how to hook up my injector pump. Hopefully sooner than later that happens!

Anyway. Tiny update is better than nothing, right?

Oh, and I have the new turbo just not on yet.
