Re: little hulk
So time to bolt up the new sump
I tried to make it look like something that might be "factory looking"
Sort of ? Well not really
Its holds 9lts of oil , and the weld in bush is a level plug
Any thoughts ?

Re: little hulk
Looks pretty neat. Shouldn't have any issues with that! Just a bit expensive for an oil change hah, I assume you've already checked the ground clearance

Re: little hulk
Yeah its quite large , and with current oil prices your right , but its all good ,cheap engine insurance I reckon
So I got a few more little things to tidy up before the engine goes back in , and I will get some pics of the sump installed , I think there's good clearance , but I do have to relocate the oil filter housing
But I believe im getting closer !
And for those who wanted more info on the gbox , The gbox im using is called a V5M21
And I have found another bolt up option but its just as big but more common and cheaper if anyone is interested !

So I was talking to a "injection guy / tuning , computer installer" today
And he reckons that the mitsubishi ecu is the best one to use ?
Its completely tune able with a lap top , I didnt realize that this was possible
So if I use the right sensors I should be able to do most things that a after market computer offers and have no problems running the engine boosted or na
So I might have a crack with it and if it doesn't work I go a haltech elite
But for now I will start a engine wiring harness and look to mount the computer in the car
What do people think ?

Re: little hulk
Quite possible, if you have the correct ecu. I know the early evo (I to III) ecu's can be chipped to use a custom tune that can be changed with a cable and laptop, however their capabilities are limited. Later evo ecu's with the plastic case work a lot better and can control a lot more stuff.
In some cases the early ecu's can be changed over to a later ecu for the additional functionality, they will plug straight into the connectors but there are a couple of wires to swap around.
I've been doing a bit of reading up on it over at the 4GTuner forums, http://www.ecmtuning.com/ and http://www.tactrix.com/index.php but I'm sure there are plenty of other options as well.

Re: little hulk
I remember reading that the guys at RPW use the stock ecu in their supercharged v6 conversion. They retune the stock ecu via laptop one would assume.

Pretty sure there have been posts over the last 5 maybe 8 years on this site about the tunability of the Mitsi ECU. I would have assumed someone of your alleged stature would have been well aware of this.

The search button is pretty useless !
And im pretty sure that a astron ecu is very different from the v6 ecu
Considering there completely different in every way
And to be honest it hasn't been covered
But thanks for the advice mate I keep it in mind

Re: little hulk
In saying that. Maybe it would be more simple just to get a aftermarket ecu? I'm sure what people say about stock ecu and that its a good ecu. But with the right tune I'm sure it could be better?

Re: little hulk
I have no problem going with a aftermarket one I have even picked out which one , haltech elite 2500
The issue is
I don't see the point in throwing the best part of 3 grand or more, when the computer I got will do the same job
Don't get me wrong I don't mind spending the coin if need be , but it would double the cost of the hole conversion and adds little to no value , if that makes sense !

Re: little hulk
If the original equipment ticks all the boxes required and is the cheaper option to the haltec, I can't see a reason why ud go to the expense with almost no benefit (over the original)...... People are gonna be looking at a relatively uncommon car with an even more uncommon powerplant......no-one is gonna care about what ecu is in it

Re: little hulk
I guess the best thing is then to chuck the stock ecu in and get it at least in working order. Then decide where u wanna go from there, at least you can make up your mind once its in and been running for awhile

Pcmhacking.net
Will show you how you can reporpose a VN+ commodore ecu to everything from a jag v12 to a two stroke motorbike and a lawnmower.
I have few here myself and intend very soon to chuck out the tr ecu on my astron conversion to something wildly more customisable. They are referred to as delco ECU's.
$20 will get you one and an extra 5-10 for the loom and sensors from anyone with a vn on commodore in their paddock!
The conversions subforum has a few astron conversions.
Ps. If you would like to retain the dizzy, you'd fair better by getting the setup from a camira or astra/pulsar. The commodore uses direct fire ignition coils with wasted spark arrangement and a crank angle sensor.
You could save a bit of $ and time by getting an enthusiast online to tune for you for backyard rates.as long as he has attention to detail, or spend $200 or so for the tools... You can even use the on road dyno real time tuning method for a genuine custom tune.

Re: little hulk
Thanks mate , sum good info
Wont work in this case but very handy to know
Anyway I made a oil filter housing spacer to space out the housing to clear the sump, extractors , engine mount
And land it right where there's room
So things are getting tighter and tighter in the engine bay , I will finish off the engine mount next and get it back in for some pics soon
So I started with a solid piece of ally and bam

Bit of a update
Ive been making a wiring loom for the engine and visiting the wreckers in the local area
Picked up a oil filter housing with a in built thermostate for a oil cooler ! Nice
Also got the water in/out of a rwd v6 but it will need mods as the block is smaller on my engine (73 is the same as a 6a13 for deck heights) and im not sure if it will fit due to bonnet height / clearance
Installed the new cams, still trying to buy a timing belt I cant seem to find one !
But wiring the computer is quite time consuming so things are moving forward but very slowly

All research I've done the 6g73 dohc 2.5L out of a 95 diamante is a 251x32toothed belt? Which is what that eBay listing is for. It should fit. What's the differences?

Thanks mate , its on order
So I have started to do some work on the engine bay , as I noticed the the strut towers are pulling away from the body !
So a bit of panel work and welding out the lot , fixing some holes and generally tidying up and might throw some etch primer around

Re: little hulk
So today's effort was removing the wiring harness from the engine bay
Im rerouting it out either side of the car outside the bay , under the mudguards
One for neatness and the main reason to keep the wiring away from heat !
So that involves stripping the harness rerouting all the associated wiring , extending wires , shorting some wires and reroute wiring to the boot for the battery also picking out the wires i need for the ecu , power to ecu and signals to dash and OBD 2 plug
Good fun ! Hours and hours of it
Cheers stealth

GIven all the other fab work you've put into this car....is re-wiring such a big issue for you???
I thought this would've been an easier task (albeit, still tedius and time consuming)
None the less, I'm sure you'll do a top job and the quality of work will be supurb

No not at all , actually quite enjoying it really
The facepalm was more in frustration , I don't know when or where to stop, it seems like im getting further away from the finish line but its all essential work in my mind
Currently tossing up about using an ally block to save more weight , but where does it end
Progress continues but there's not much visual progress but I reckon im getting close to the half way line
Hopefully I can get some etch primer down today , which would allow the engine to go in again for another round of trial fitting
Thanks for the motivational comments all
