Thats a shame
But at least you know your limits, I've seen quite a few on here that didn't know and found out the hard or expensive way
Its always a shame to see some poor old car getting butchered
Funny part is a few have accused me of this, and think that hulk won't ever see the black stuff
But don't stress , im quite capable of getting it done it just come down to time , and I will get there
By the way there was no 3.5tt , only the 3000 was a twin turbo

Yeah once you factor in all the mitsi engines and all the "variants" Hyundai, kia , Chrysler there's a lot of combo's , from 1.6 thur to 3.8 , ally blocks , mivec
As I said soooo many options

So I have spent another weekend working on hulk
Did more work on the hot water side of things got it sorted just needs some more welding and the firewall is completely out now , time to make a cardboard template and then make it out of sheet , got an idea for the hydraulic clutch , using a tn/tp magna clutch pedal arrangement , it has a separate clutch pedal so just going to mod it a little and the fit it up along side of my pedal box with the clutch pedal removed of course, and incorporating the mount for the master cylinder just above the coils

Well got home today to a nasty letter from Queensland Transport today !!
As there cracking down on modified cars they have decided that they need to inspect my car within 21 working days or thay revoke my modification permit
As well as that there going to do all inspections untill finished
Now it has to be spot on to the letter , or no approval , I can't see this going well !
So ive got a dead line to put the firewall back in !!! :banh:
Sometimes im just lucky
Oh well

This weeks update is
Im currently about halfway through the shaping of the "firewall" or the piece of sheet that looks nothing like a firewall at this point
Just a piece of sheet with lots of swaged lines and funny shapes , needs a lot more hours thrown at it before it looks any good , then weld it in

Dont get to excited
At this stage I only need the firewall in so thay can inspect the vehicle to make sure nothing illegal has been going on
And yes the new rules are shit , and im quite sure this is not a random thing either
But all good , its just motorvation to get the firewall in
Anyway another late night will be had

Its already stripped just need to cut it up and do some magic
Its all good im not that stressed ive still got 16 business days
So while being under the pump its really not that bigger dead line
I will get it done no worries , and im taking it to there inspection point in the race transporter from work !
Should be funny when it comes out on the tailgate loader

So queensland transport had the car from Tuesday threw to Friday , I picked it up late yesterday
All good , got the tick of approval , don't get me wrong they really not happy about the engine gbox thats going in but and I quote
"Its been done to the letter by the rules so our hands are tied , at least the quality of the work is outstanding ! "
So i loaded it back into the truck and took it back to work , then home this morning after a torsional twist test
Anyway theres plenty to be done , and I don't have a lot of spare time so I will do what I can as time permits

What annoys me, is for example, a 2.6 turbo, unless you spend huge $$$ on it, doesn't make a great deal of power yet a 2L 4g63t which is also lighter produces stock 180-200kw and with a bit of money you can make a shit tonne more yet, the 2L is legal in my lancer. But the 2.6 isn't?..stupid..and the v6 your putting in, stock probably not gonna make as much as a 4g63..

Here is some clarification
A 4g63bt is the heaviest , then 4g54 turbo ,4g54 na ,4g32 and the lightest one is the 6g73 at 42kg less than the 63 but the gbox makes up for it
Yes the rules are stupid , but there written to cover everything, if you want to build something like my thing you can get away with a far bit , its just a lot of paperwork
And when you consider power potential any of the three engines are capable of big numbers
Obviously the 63bt is the pick of the bunch , but at the same time a 6g72 dohc is the same bore and stroke same ports and valves as the 63 its just got two more cylinders and a a extra capacity at 3lt
So in theory it should make same or more than a 63 , given the same conditions, cam specs and boost
The 6 is a very capable engine to make big hp
And I can't see a reason that I can't have a turbo on mine , as its allready engineered with the 2.6 turbo
And as far as it goes it will come down to the finished weight , as long as it weighs a set number it will be legal
As it was explained to me the concern on there behalf is that it is a completely different series of engine that doesn't fit , and the amount of modifications made to the vehicle is a lot and there worried that a 40 year old unibody won't handle the torque
Thats why im complying with a torsional twist test , even though queensland transport dont have the equipment to test the car and wanted me to take it to Sydney to get the test lucky thay have agreed that the equipment we have at work is more accurate than the one the Rta have so I can do it at work and give them the read out as long as their present at the time of the test
Either way its happening as its within the rules until thay can prove otherwise but im farly confident that it will pass and be totally street legal , safe is a whole other story but im working on it , I reckon it can be done

This weeks progress has been slow , did some research into stiffening the "chassis"
Im currently removing the engine so I can etch prime the firewall and start looking at making the tunnel
Did some welding on the rear water housing
So all in all slowly chipping away at it
Im getting pretty keen as its starting to look like something resembling a car again and the mountain of work is now getting smaller
Anyway 550 fabrication hours,3 g size bottles of argon and countless jim beams
The work continues

LA's are weak in the front rails. We normally plate the front rails and seam weld the strut towers up to stiffen the front end up.

We also run an angle bar down the edge of the floor where it meets the sills on the inside the car from the back of the front wheel arch all the way the front of the rear wheel arch. You may need to cut the bar in half to get it under the seat runner mounts.

Good to know big26
Im have already done some of those , and will be doing a far bit of reinforcing and as I have access to a torsional twist testing machine I can check my work as I go
Thanks again for the advice
