My MA L200 ute

Post by 75glnt »

I know I know! "Another build?!" :P

Here's my recently acquired l200 ute. I bought it from a fellow member (thanks Shaun! :D ). It has no engine or box, no tray and no seats.. So a perfect start for me! She's a bit rusty but nothing compared to most of the ones I've seen! (Front of the sills and front quarters. That's it)

My plans are;

Race seats
4g63 dohc efi from a gsr galant
5 speed
Exhaust system
Lowered about 2"
Custom tray
D shaped steel rims in black. 16x8 -34
(Here's the bit some will ask "why")
Fender mirrors
Zg flares up front
Stretched tyres (not a lot)
Gonna try and sticker bomb the rocker cover :P
Rising sun (jap naval flag) for a roof lining (another see how I go thing)
And MAYBE! A ge front

I'm not going to be repainting the ute at all.. I will fix the rust, spray over it in black, and leave it.. Going for a rough jdm mini truck theme :P

Now for the pics! Lol :)

Going to be a daily.. So nothing too exciting.. :P just a efi dohc g63 ;)

Cheers,
Mick :)

At least currently it is not smokey, and no nasty noises from the gearbox, huh?
Should be a great build

Looks good, great place to start and your plans are perfect, will look tough. Factory A/C by the looks?
Pretty sure that was a factory 4G32, will rego be an issue with a 4G63 in it?

Oh flash one! Air con :P

And nah because the same chassis came out factory with a sohc g63.. As far as they know.. I could've just replaced the head with a dohc ;) see how that goes :P if I get pulled up, I'll play dumb and I suppose I'll go see an engineer.. It won't be a hassle as I will be using oem mounts and so on. Tray may need a tag, as will the seats.

But thank you for the kind words :)

Oh and flashy, SO FAR, there's no rattles or clunks :P I haven't seen this galant yet. And for $500 running I'm not expecting much.. But time will tell :)

Yep, these came sohc G63B from the factory. I spied this on youtube a little while ago, this could be an option... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVpbeTobo-c. By the looks of it you won't need to fool around with modifying the inlet manifold to suit a RWD application.

O.k. here's the synopsis. Guy buys a Kia Optima minus the drivetrain and has a look in the local wreckers. After a bit of research and using his own knowledge discovers the Kia is sharing a heap of mechanicals with Evos as the engine was built by Hyundai with a few very minor differences, so it could either be used for replacement parts on the cheap for Evo's or leaves the door open for upgrading to turbo by using Evo stuff. The engine is a 4G64 2.4 litre engine with a 7 bolt crank. Near identical head, same block, same gaskets, same bottom end. The bottom end could be pulled out and swapped into a 4G63 as a stroker engine. The added bonus is the throttle body is already front mounted so no cut and shut welding. If this is all correct it could make this a viable engine upgrade.

Make sure you double check before you buy anything from a Kia. Lots of there stuff is very closely related to a 4G63 BUT, they mainly used EvoIV style heads. So the manifolds are on the wrong side for us.

The bodywork is the single most expensive job you can outsource on a car. Do whatever you can before sending it off for a paint job, it'll put cash in your pocket. What colour are you painting it in?

Yea the only stuff they'll have to do is cut out the metal and replace it.. There will be no rust in it when it goes.. It will be treated..

And as for colour... It's staying as it is..

If you ever read the 240z build in the "inspirational builds" topic.. I'm going for the look he had, before it was painted.. A little rough to look at. But it's not too rough.. So it's still passable... If you know what I mean?? :P

But of I end up going with the ge ute... It will go purple.. Most likely. See how I go :)

Update; I'm going to bring her home tomorrow!!! Then it's saving for the gsr galant, then the body repairs.. In between times... I shall treat the rust so it doesn't spread, and pick up little bits and pieces I will need. :)

New addition to the family!! A 1989 HG GSR galant hatch. (Aka, donor car ;-) )

I drive it home tonight, with a broken gear selector.. So I had.. 1st :P

Also had no indicators :P

But that thing is flash!!! All windows work, nice interior, and it has this wicked genius electronic suspension!! With 6 settings (soft, auto or hard.. Which all have a setting of soft, medium and hard.) it was set on soft, so I pushed auto and because it was up around the 4500 rpm mark, it set the suspension hard, and within a second or two, it was rock solid! Bouncy and everything! I could've reefed on the wheel hard and it would've had no body roll! That, is cool!

Anyway, the engine is good, so let it all begin! :D

(H) yep! Mum reckons the gsr is too good to wreck.. All it needs is indicator bulbs and a linkage, and it is a roadworthy, reliable car.. Lol

yeah but its FWD, not anything against newer mitsu's but the only mitsu of that style/era i would save would be a GSR Lancer (AWD) seen them with simple lowering and wheels and they look awesome
