Good to have some serious motivation, lol
I can't wait to see this finished. Any news on the front brake set up? Did you get it sorted?

Ahh I lost abit of momentum,
Im hopeless, never satisfied.
I start pulling stuff apart to fix, then find something else im not happy with, and pull that apart, then find something else...
I suddenly find myself elbows deep in rebuild and along way from sunlight...

Im sure alot of you are the same :P

Well its at the stage that i figured i need to get this back on the road, and I can do the full strip back and rebuild in years to come...

Brakes should be finished Monday if im in the workshop :D

And then finish off engine bay, and put the front end back together through the week.
Engine Cross member, suspension and steering.

Pull a dent out of the Fuel tank, clean it up and refit it, remount the Fuel pumps, and rerun all the fuel lines.

Pick up the engine Sat, so hopefully have everything finished for then, or drop driveline in next weekend...

Im in no hurry, i dont expect it to be ready before Xmas

Id rather do it right and be happy than rush it...

Good to see progress.
I know progress has been happening on this, but now things are getting put together and pics are up, so it's easy to see progress happening.

Shame the bay didn't end up purple again :( I like that colour, I think it suits the shape of the car.

Would have been too hard to try to blend, and match the colour.

Its all the months of saving, planning, collecting parts and bits and peices,
Cutting, grinding, welding, Cleaning, buffing, painting,
phone calls or driving all over town to get the right part, nut or bolt,
and waiting and patience.

Still plenty of work ahead

So i fitted the Chromed bonnet hinges, and bonnet back on, also fitted the chrome bonnet stand

I fitted the stainless Oil catch can, its a good kit as you have an optional bung for the top to make it legal, and plumb back to the intake,
or you can fit the filter that came with it :)

While i had everything apart, i thought i would check the insides of the wiper motor.
I found a build up of carbon on the armature so i gave it a light sand and cleaned out between the rotor bars.

And all back together, painted and refitted. also with the chromed airvent plates

Thanks Vaughn, im happy with how it is coming together finally :)

Also i found that one of these Tap and Die sets has come in very handy.
You can pick them up fairly cheap, and they are great for old cars where corrosion and damaged threads,
and sheared off bolts on removal are a common problem.

I also found just cleaning the thread of bolt holes, or even the bolts themselves where i had painted was handy.

One of?
I'll go further then that. I'll say it is the best.
The colour, the interior colour and the wheels (well the ones that were on it) are the best combination I've seen on a Gen 1 Lancer.

What wheels have you planned for it now Dan? Or are you going to keep us in suspense?

I was out cruising in the wagon (took it to Bunnings of all places) and ran into your mate with the Blue/Green 4 door LA. Maybe he'll join the site? maybe?

Thanks guys, really appreciate the encouragement :)

I still think that Red with black bonnet and white up the side GSR from the states is the best Gen 1 ive seen.

Nots ure Burabuda,
it was already painted when i brought the car.
But no its not metallic.

I went to have a look at the wheels on Friday but unfortunately they wont fit.
17x9s with near new tyres only $500 so its a shame they wont.
Even with 25mm spacers the offset was too far towards the strut
I think 9s are too wide anyway, it would have been rubbing everywhere
And i dont think they would really suit my car anyway, might have been ok for track wheels

5 x 114.3

They are off a Skyline,
but yeah same as 5 stud Silvia, Supra, Falcon etc
Let me know and i can organise it for you.

If anyone has a datsun 1600 (Sedan),
He also has a full set of adaptor hubs to convert to Silvia 5 stud.
Including the rear swing arms.
Would be great for brake upgrades and updated wheels options.

dan, just finished giving this thread a slooow read from the beginning
glad i did. good info, not just for my future turbo build, but for the n.a. g54b i'm building atm

i will say, that i won't be waiting that long before installing the magna head and efi

btw, having had a similar experience with my own build, i can totally identify with your anguish toward the p.o.
first it's at least he's a "nice guy" a few pages later he's a "cheap bugger"

Thanks Matt,

To be honest, I am in two minds as to wether i would have gone down the Turbo build Had I have known the motor was going to need full replacement before i had already brought the bottom end parts.

If it was a 4 door yes.
But being a 2 door, I think I would seriously consider building a 4G32 and a twin cam head...

Make it old school and get more credit from collectors and older enthusiasts.

Cost would have been about the same,
Not as quick, but it would have been a more desirable car...

As for the Previous Owner,
I wouldnt have minded if he said nothing,
But the flatout lies and Bull dust he told me about certain parts and things he had supposedly done to the car.

Well lets just say he didnt get a Christmas Card this year
