new member from Radelaide South Oz
Re: new member from Radelaide South Oz
pulled the gearbox outta the stigma to replace the clutch.
thinking a pajero heavy duty.
diff is dead.
anyone got a GH scorpion rear end by any chance? ;)
a welsh plug is also leaking, and then spotted a leak in the head gasket, front left in the pic.
so bugger it, went to ustealit and got a late model M7 head with bigger valves.
deck 2 to 3mm off it. run the old cam and lifters.
got a set of extractors to go on to compliment the GSXR750 guad carbs that it's already running.
gee, it has been a while...

Ha ha, small job no longer!
Re: new member from Radelaide South Oz
yeah, and Superscan811 is trying to talk us into flat topped pistons and a stage 3 cam!
Gotta save some mods for later, can't do it ALL at once

Re: new member from Radelaide South Oz
head back today, 2mm shaved off.
fit it tomorrow with a bit of luck.
anyone want the old head? - in good nick, and we have looked after removing it from the car.

Re: new member from Radelaide South Oz
Who did the head work mate? I'll be pulling my 68 Colt head soon to investigate a possible head gasket issue and will probably need some work done on the head before putting it back on....

did a good job, gave it a clean too, and also removed a broken exhaust stud and repaired it nicely
(previous owner had tried to drill it out and messed it all up, so a bit of aluminium welding had to be done.)

Re: new member from Radelaide South Oz
so, M7 head shaved 2mm, 3.5kg worth of balance shafts removed, pacemaker extractors, custom 2 1/4" straight thru system with only a hot dog on the end, along with Superscan811s GSXR750 quad carbies of love, plus a quick tune from Benno, and we have a monster
of course it never sounds the same on vid as real life, and it's backed into a garage, so very echoey.
Benno is only pushing it to about 2 1/2 grand.
gave it another burst up to around 5 1/2 grand a bit later when it had warmed up - mental.
stock last year at a dyno day was 57.5kwatw
thinking we might be 80 - 85 atw now, maybe even higher...

2 weeks until first event, and we still need to throw in a rear end

Love it.
What time is start and finish on the 11th?
If we pig our lunches down we could be there about 3pm, lol

Re: new member from Radelaide South Oz
Crap, I'm keen for a look too but AJD is high on my calendar list of events ( not entered this year though ). I'm also starting some track building of my own this weekend so will be fairly busy the next few weekends. Damian, if I have some success I may see if you guys want to "test and tune" your beast on the newly formed track
Re: new member from Radelaide South Oz
yeah it was a bit of a pain when we saw AJD on the same date when the CAMS calendar came out.
there are a few others in the same situation, which event to attend??
maybe if Scotty gets over here Sat early enough, we could orgainse a pub meal down Hallett Cove way?
Lanac Park, just North of Mt Compass.
VENUE/LOCATION: Lanac Park is situated on Munetta Rd, Mt Compass which runs in a southerly direction off the Willunga to Myponga Road.
“MOTOR SPORT TODAY” signs will be posted on Main South Road before the Myponga turn off and also at the Munetta Rd turn off leading to the track.
MAP - http://www.sdcc.asn.au/lanac.html
There's canteen, shelter, but no dogs and no alcohol.
Take South Rd and take the Victor turnoff so you are heading up willunga hill. Just after the top of the hill is a sign on the left, pointing right, saying to Myponga.
Should also be an orange/red "motorsport here today free spectating" sign.
This road is Pages Flat Rd.
Go down it about 2 or 3km.
There'll be another orange/red motorsport today sign pointing to a tarmac road on the left side of the road.
Munetta Road - First tarmac rd on the left.
Go down about 2 or 3k and you'll see the track and cars on your left.
Can't miss it
Usually starts around 10am, goes til around 4 or 5pm.
just wander down the line of cars in the pits until you find us.
very friendly environment

Damit - i didn't take any pics with holding say a matchbox in the ports for comparison...
one of the two balance shafts (3.5kg total weight removed)
heavy duty clutch
the powerplant
custom 2.25" exhaust - no cat, no muffler other than that hot dog on the end

Re: new member from Radelaide South Oz
I'm getting excited only a few more days til the Stigma hits the track after its summer build
The M7 head is on, the extractors & exhaust complete, the new (2nd hand) scorpion diff is fitted
We'll be using the Motorkhana as a test for the Khanacrosses so hopefully everything goes to plan

Re: new member from Radelaide South Oz
Was good to meet you guys on the weekend and the track isn't that far from my place so will definitely head out again at some point
Re: new member from Radelaide South Oz
likewise buddy.
Event report to go up shortly - news has been getting around I think that Scotty, i mean we, killed it (again).
Sounds like timing chain skipped a tooth or 2, and valves possibly met pistons...
awesome day, until it broke anyway.
the crowd loved the car - the noise - the sideways action - the doughnuts - mental

Re: new member from Radelaide South Oz
Event report from Motorkhana 26/02/2012 (sorry it's a bit late guys)
It's offical we broke the Stigma again
It looks as if the timing chain has jumped a few teeth, we have yet to pull it down to confirm it, but with the piston on no.1 TDC (firing stroke) the rotor button on the dizzy was about 40 degrees from where it should be, it won't turn over by hand either, Damo finished his run and parked it, then when Scotty went to start it, it wouldn't fire up. I so hope we haven't bent any valves, but I have a horrible feeling that we have.
Foolishly when I put the engine back together I didn't pack any washers behind the timing chain tensioner as per Cheater and Superscan's words of wisdom. It wasn't til I had the engine all togther that I read that post about the trick with the tensioner
Hopefully we will get a chance to pull it down soon and have a look at what damage we have done.
I guess that means when it's in pieces we'll have to fit the Stage 3 cam and adjustable timing gear, gee that's a shame I think we'll also throw some valve springs on it too.
The engine can now breathe properly and you certainly can feel the difference. It was so much more responsive with the M-7 head (with 2mm shaved off it), extractors and 2.25 inch exhaust fitted, and the balance shafts removed. The new heavy duty extreme clutch also felt very good. I can't wait to get it back on the track for some more fun.
Apart from that it was a great day of fun. I'm glad that you made the trip over Scotty (even though it was an eventful journey for ya mate), it was a pleasure giving you a drive mate. I hope you enjoyed your stay, It sounds like we may have started something by giving you a drive and a taste of competition (building a gj-k scorpion now I hear )
It was also good to catch up with Jase and Michael at the Tonsley on Saturday night, Thanks also to Shifta for coming down to have a look.
We'll keep you all posted on the outcome of the engine diagnosis and progress of the repairs.
The next event is a Khanacross on the 29th of April.
Here's a few of pics
new exhaust (built by me with a little help from Marky at Exhaust Technology, He's a legend in SA) it's so shiny (not anymore)
the new combo (before the damage was done)
getting off the line

ah
so timing chain slipped, valves met pistons, inlet side only.

Re: new member from Radelaide South Oz
An update on the stigma, pulled cylinder head of and found 4 badly bent inlet valves and 1 broken inlet rocker (as per pic above) the timing chain had only jumped a little bit, about 40 degrees
Repairs are well under way, the head will be going back on this saturday along with the stage 3 cam, I've also given the ports a little clean up, it will be interesing to see how it goes after that..........
