Another n00b!

Post by YellowTerror »

G'day. Names alex, im 16 and I half own this '79 Mitsubishi GH Scorpion.

Members who live around the northern rivers area may recognize it and no its not dead!
Image

Basically the car has been in our family since before i was even born. My 'rents were thinking about selling it but they decided to give it too me. Thus the project began.

As it is right now.

Only mods are rims(Enkei 3 peice), reground cam, air dam and air con (H)
My other car is my R31 skyline which is just a bush hack. Tis sick as bru :P

Welcome to the site...
Are you planning on spraying it the same yellow? Certainly looks like it's well under way
What other plans do you have for the car?

Always room for a tidy Scorp on my screen...

thanks and yes we are going to spray it the original Jannu yellow.
As for plans i dont really know yet, but it will be based around stock. L plate and P plate laws are getting pretty tough nowdays. Definatly will redo the interior black instead of poo brown, exhaust, some nice rims, stereo and yeah, just cruise round and look good :D

The car has been an on/off project for about a year now. We will get it to a good stage and then nothing for months. Either my dad is too busy or i cant be fucked to do anything.

Sounds like a plan...

Where exactly is the Northern Rivers? I'm not good at geography.

What if, instead of changing the rims, you just painted the painted the gold bit in the centre the same colour as the car and dropped it?
Just a thought.

Lismore/Casino area. Ballina, byron bay, grafton, kyogle etc, right up in the far corner of NSW.

I have thought about colouring the centre but imo still wont look good. The wheels have been welded together for some reason so i cant get them widened and the offset is pretty poo too, makes it look like a whale. Also 14in is a bit too small for my liking. 15-16inch old school meshies or similar would look ace or i could go 16-17in new schoolish. I dunno, so man possibilities.

Some pics of scorps/siggy's with different rim choices would be nice. Oh and i will keep the enkei's spare so dont bother asking for them lol :P

Have a look in these, may give you some ideas. But personally, I think nothing beats Simmons V4's on a Scorp (colour coded of course) 15's or 16's.

hehe cheers. The rims now have that, look awesome up close but shit 'n' tiny from a distance. They dont fill the guards at all. Anyway, rim choice is a long way off yet, i have to get it painted first!

About the airdam. Too airdam or not to airdamn? Because i just asked my 'rents how many driveways they could get into around casino and lismore and the answer was "none" lol

I'm all about keeping the clean original lines, and then you could drop it.

What's your opinion? Do you like it?

Those drawings are looking pretty sweet.
here are some of mine...http://www.sigma-galant.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2891

If you're good at drawing and you're interested, why not put some of your pics of Scorps/ Sigmas up like I have in their own thread, that way others can add theirs if they like.

Nice work though, keep it up

pick a car
open MS paint
go go go

the cefiro and pulsar are pretty much custom remakes of the original bases. And the scorpion, rodeo, 720 and r31 4 door's are my own bases and are not in the database.

Hit me up if you would like the R31 or 720 base.

Thanks guys for the warm welcome, greatly appreciated

As for anybody else who would like a pixel car, im sorry but no. All the cars here have to be made from scratch and it really just takes way too long to do, plus im having a break from pixels.

Come on Dan, yours has the standard lines. It has flares, but they don't detract from it, they add to it.
The question asked by YellowTerror was, should he leave the front spoiler on or take it off?
I think it would look better without it as it detracts from the car.

So to answer your question Dan. No I don't want them all to stay stock. Mine is because I'm a tight arse.
There is a lot of skill is trying to make a car look hot, and trying to make it appear like it was meant to be that way.

Actually mate i was referring to your reply about keeping and painting the old Wheels in comparison to getting some new school rims....
Which is what these whiper snappers are upto these days...

But i totally agree with your call about taking skill to stand out and make an original bodied car look hot!!

But i was drooling over Wayne (GDOZGALANTs) completely stock Galants and Wherret Sigma... So im hopeless with any and all cars :)

some more shots

The metal strip that lines the rear passenger windows has rusted and expanded. Can get spares?
The front windows have some sort of guiding rubbers on them? they have completely worn away so the windows rattle alot. Can get spares? or just get some made up. Anybody have pics of what they look like? lol
Is there any way you can fix the shrinking, expanding gap in dash problem?
What later model front seats will fit in? Originals are pretty worn after 30 years and 300,000km lol
Dan you car was in Fast Fours. Correct?

for seats im fairly certain that there aren't any upgrades for the scorpion
(correct me if i'm wrong C_Fernance)
because they are a coupe and have the slide / fold function so people can get to the back seat

i just recently put new seats in my galant (monza sport) and its not overly hard
to adapt the new seats to the existing runners
you will just have to buy some that fold / slide....
only cost me $350 (mates rates) for both seats and then $30 for some high tensile bolts
and some steel for the mounting brackets...

as for the rubbers and strips, you best bet is the wreckers.
rare spares do rubbers etc but i'm not sure on the scorpions.
the person to ask on here is C_Fernance (he started the old website and has a huge knowledge on scorpions)
he might even have spares himself....

and yeah, Dan's car was in Fast Fours.

as for whether or not you should put the front bar on it,
in my honest opinion, the scorpions have a great front end anyway
and i wouldn't put it there, but in the end its your car, nobody elses.
i would be just taking the black bumper protectors off it, thats all

Dean.

What about some recovered Starion Seats??

They are abit sportier and hugging around the sides, plus they will fold forward for the Coupe requirements.

Or yeah some off the shelf folding sports seats...

Yeah mate Fast Fours, but that was with the old owner.

And come to think of it, looking at that first photo,
Wasnt This car in a magazine awhile back??

I was actually thinking, just a bit of polish to the lip and a bit of paint might tidy them up good enough, till he can save the dosh to put some larger ones on like he wants.
I like New school rims too... Just not all of them, just like I don't like all the old school ones either.... And I'm not that OLD

I like the look of your rims on my wagon, even without the centres.

GJ-GK-GN Sigma, Scorpion & Starion seats all have the same mounting layout on the floor which makes interchanging very easy.
If your looking for some Starion seats, have a look on http://www.austarion.com Lots of Starion members in your area.
I have a pair surplus, but freight from SA is a killer.
