Hey
I just bought a 81 Chrysler Scorpion, will be picking up from Melbourne and driving it to Chryslers on the Murray next weekend.
I haven't seen the car yet as a mate went and checked it out for me.
This is the first Scorpion I have owned, have been into Chryslers since I was at school.
Don't know much about these cars, but have always liked them, have been looking at either a Chrysler Scorpion, Lancer, Galant or Centura.
This car came up so I jumped on it.
Its a one lady owner car.
Not sure what the plans are for the car yet, keep it stock and drive it or put a different engine in.
Are they reliable cars ???? I have heard the engines have problems with the head.
Hope to catch up with some of you on here at a run or at Harrys one Sat night
Cheers
Andrew

Hi Scorpy, welcome to S-G. As far as early Mitsubishi's go, the Scorpion is a robust beast. They have the same issues as any other car depending on how they've been treated. The main issues with the Astron engine is the timing chain. There's no mistaking the sound of an Astron engine with a tired timing chain. The alloy heads hold up o.k. as long as coolant is used in the engine and there aren't any leaks. And the fact that they are running on Neanderthal technology means not a lot can go wrong with them - and if something does fail, it's usually something that the average Joe can diagnose and repair. The Scorpion is a bit quirky. They aren't a sports coupe so don't expect razor sharp handling from one. And, for a 2 door they are freaking HEAVY. When you figure out how to post up pics and navigate your way around the site, get a build thread up so we can take a look. And also my usual tip for the noobs, use the search function http://www.sigma-galant.com/search.php it is your friend

The cops tend to target guys who draw attention to themselves. I think generally, the old school crowd doesn't have the same negative image that 'tuners' get with their imports (they earned themselves a bad rep and now anyone who owns something vaguely in the category has a target painted on them...) Keep your car clean, well maintained and don't act like a tool on the road and the odds are in your favour. 8-)

Fair enough, I'm new to the Hot 4 scene,
I have had Aussie Chargers, Chrysler Coupes and the last
7 Years I have had American Muscle Cars.
Never been hassled in the Yankee Cars, don't know if its
cause I'm older now, or the type of cars.
One of the clubs that I'm part of was organising the
Cure for Cancer fundraiser at Harry's , they approached
the local police etc, turns out that they wanted
to have a mobile RTA setup in the underground
carpark. All the Clubs involved complained saying
it was a fundraiser so the Police scrapped the idea.
I heard that the same thing happened in QLD somewhere
cops waited outside for the people to leave and would pull
them over and defect them, that's P-ss Poor

You hear tales of how bad some of the states law enforcers behave and they way they treat the general public. Anyone wonder why there are cop jokes when even the cops have contempt for the uniform...The problem with public car club meets are the posers and tag alongs that show up as well - you can be guaranteed those are the tools that ruin it for everyone (I was a member of the former fours and rotaries club of SA and it happened every time there was a cruise or a meet somewhere :@ )
