New 74 Galant GTO GS2000 member From New Zealand

Post by Axel »

Been searching these forums and i apologize if i missed it, but has anyone done a 4g63t (evo 3) engine swap from a 1974 Galant Colt GTO GS2000 ? (2.0L twin Carb) as i just got quoted 10,000NZD for entire conversion, apparently bolts straight in.

This is another one of those 'bolts straight in' conversions that isn't a 'bolts straight in' job. There's a number of mods needed to convert it from FWD to RWD. Engine mounts, CAS sensor on the head, external water galleries, injection plenum set up... but $10k NZ is a fair chunk of cash for a conversion! You'd be better off buying an EVO 1-3 Lancer and driving that. :o

Sounds dear to me. A mate is selling one of those with an 8 valve 4g63 from a Starion for $8000nz. Check Trademe.

As far as I'm aware the 2.6 turbo starion engine is as good as dammit a bolt in job, diabolu over here in the uk did that to his, granted there are little mode to the gearbox etc but the engine itself wriggles itself in just fine from what I've read

Let's have some pictures of the beauty!!! :P

I don't think we had 2.6 turbos for Starions in NZ. Just 2 litre. Heres the link to Pauls car;

There is a massive difference fitting the 4G63 SOHC Turbo engines to a DOHC turbo engine.

Mostly because the SOHC setups have everyting in the right way for a rear wheel drive vehicle, where the DOHC engines require significant amount of fabrications.

side effect is though, the SOHC Turbo EFI setup is worn out and antiquated so best setup is to convert to multipoint and aftermarket EFI.

Having just done a DOHC Conversion into a Sigma / Galant / Eterna factory SOHC Turbo vehicle, it can be done but defintly work on a high budget to do the conversion. But I am sure you would be happy with the results.
