VGJONO's 1976 GD Galant Daily
Re: VGJONO's 1976 GD Galant Daily
Cheers everyone, it's been great having it back on the road.
So I recently purchased the next "BIG" part of this project, well its alot of small parts to make the big part haha
I picked myself up a 4G63t 6 bolt engine out of a VR4 RS, It has done 140,000k's not that it matters now, the previous owner of the engine pulled it apart to inspect it before he decided to go another direction with his build. Progress for this motor will probably be slow and I don't exactly see myself doing anything to it until atleast the middle of the year. Also with the engine i got the TD05-16g turbo to suit that has been rebuilt. winning. Now to do some reading, some saving and some planning on how im going to go about with this.
Also made it to a few meets since I got the old girl back on the road, Was super happy to have it looking presentable at All Jap classic day for the first time.
Cheers
Jon

Umm didn't you just buy Delortos for the baby motor??
Re: VGJONO's 1976 GD Galant Daily
Yep you are correct, I did kind of hint at how stupid that purchase was but at the time i didn't plan on even looking to buy a 4G63t for another year or so, This one got offered to me for a pretty good price so I couldn't refuse.
- replace clutch and brake pedals (current ones are quite dodgy)
- Front end suspension rebuild
- fit wagon leaf springs
- rebuild the rear brakes
I will still be putting them on for the meanwhile as I do intend to drop this motor into another car once it's time is up in the Sedan. I also have a little bit of a list of things I must do before I spend much more on the 4G63tSecondly something that is going to be awesome but in a few weeks will probably seem like somewhat of a waste of money, whatever, it'll be fun

Had a close up look at your gd on sunday jon, youve done a awesome job so far, cant wait to see it once you get the 4g63t into it. what are your plans with the 4g63t? are you gonna keep it stock or while its apart you gonna do some work? maybe a stroker kit and aftermarket ecu?

Cheers mate, Plan is to keep it bone stock, Just put it back together with new rings and bearings and call it a day. For the ECU I am just going to use the factory VR4 ECU and if need be upgrade that at a later date. Keeps the costs down and should be rather reliable.

Did you get the flywheel with the engine ?
Would have to be the hardest part to find for the 6 bolt engine , what gbox are you going to use?

Re: VGJONO's 1976 GD Galant Daily
Yeah I have the flywheel from this motor and I also have a 4G52 flywheel which I am under the impression that it fits and makes the swap a little easier (someone do correct me if I am wrong) and I currently have an early 5 speed from a GE sigma in the car at the moment, KM119? and I also have a KM132 sitting in the shed. I am undecided on what I am going to use at the moment. The gearbox in the car seems reasonably healthy, no funny noises or anything, came out of a low Klm GE sigma with a 4G52 that sadly found its way into a wrecking yard.

Interesting about the flywheel , I never realized that one
And what exhaust / turbo manifold , intake and thermostate housing are you planning on,
Should be a good little rocket

Re: VGJONO's 1976 GD Galant Daily
All still in the planning stage really but thoughts are jay racing kit to sort the Thermostat out. And for the manifold I'm not sure yet, that is the one thing this engine is lacking as its manifold was cracked and thrown out. I have seen tubular replacement low mount manifolds here and there, possibly going to look at buying one of those and modding it into a high mount. I am not anywhere near as skilled with a welder as I would like to be, so I will probably hit up a mate of mine I know to help out with that one. And finally for the intake A friend has a RWD converted intake manifold stashed away for me that I'm buying which should have that sorted. I'm trying to keep as much stock equipment as possible, For budget purposes and ease of fitment really.
Re: VGJONO's 1976 GD Galant Daily
I believe the EVO 7/8/9 inlet manifolds are a straight bolt on arrangement with the EVO 1/2/3 head. As they turned the motor & gearbox around in the late model Evo's the throttle body points in the correct direction in a RWD application without the mucking around of cutting up the old style manifold to make it all work.......
Re: VGJONO's 1976 GD Galant Daily
If the inlet ports weren't different then they would be. Been down this road and they can't work, the older evos had a much bigger port before they turned them around.

Long time no post, thought I would do a quick update.
Twin dellorto's are on, They work, not perfect but well enough for now.

Did some track stuff, another year out at Mopar sunday which I set another PB in the car at 17.913 @75mph. also went to Queensland raceway for Mighty car mods queensland meet.
Should be more on the 4G63t swap soon, Been a slow process saving funds.
Also not going through and replacing all my photo's again after photobucket decided to be a jerk.

Nice looking Galant, what was going on with that reaction time?
Re: VGJONO's 1976 GD Galant Daily
Was during testing, was having problems getting the car off the mark without it falling on it face and bogging down really badly due to some issues i was experiencing with the carbies, So i took my time as i was trying to figure out how i was going to get around this problem all day. Turns out 5000rpm clutch dumps resulted in PB's
