Bought a GC wagon

Post by wa5 »

Bought this last week, its an auto. Apparently one owner, though I never met him..

It was sitting in a workshop having been knocked back for rego... a little loose in the left front suspension and some oil leaks. the colapsing drivers seat would probably rank a mention too.

Not a bad old thing, but god its slow.

This wagon is the one that I stopped to talk to the owner last October.
I saw it when it still had rego on it (although was only a couple of weeks I think?)
I gave this bloke my number, as he was not sure if he was selling it or not.
I figured he had fixed it and re rego'd it?

What are your plans for it?
Would be good to see another GC wagon cruising around...

Very nice and yes that A/C is great. If you want to sell the A/C and no-one else has got in before me, drop me a PM. The modification to the oil filler cap is consistent with blow-by :( but overall it looks good.

Thats being very polite T. calling that a 'mod' lol, but yeah I think it would be pressurising a little, as they do with age

She does put a bit of fume out the back, I have only had her running for 10 minutes max.. not really sure whats happening with the old girl yet. as stated, I was thinking of using the a/c in another vehicle. was this a a/c system a "factory approved" aftermarket system?

I don't know about yours, but I believe this one is.

I have seen a Lancer Hatch with a factory aircon system in it years ago. It was at Cardiff wreckers.
Wish I had that setup now

My AC is an aftermarket MARKIV system installed by North Shore car airconditioning in 1983. I have the orignal installation handbook from the previous owner

A mate once had one of these in a XW Falcon back in the day, was funny to follow him at night as it has a very bright blue light that came on and off as the a/c kicked in and out. As a passenger you would get very cold knees, lol

Hi all,

I had integrated air con fitted to my GD wagon back in 1977. It cost $650.00 at the time (car only cost $5,185.00) and was fitted by a mob called "Galaxy Sounds" in Maitland.
The system was manufactured by "Unicla". The compressor bracket had to be custom made for the 4g32 engine as the bracket supplied would not fit (was possibly for the US 2lt astron engine). The interior unit fitted up under the dash and connected into the original ductwork. A set of centre vents was installed in the floor console reducing the size of the cubbyhole by about 50%. The remaining recess used to get very cold (was good for freezing mars bars on longer trips) :D :D .

Wish I still had it :( :( . Probably wouldn't fit the hardtop though as the fan units are different to the sedans and wagons.
