LC Lancer hatch

Post by 75wagon »

I just bought this today.
It was formerly owned by another member from this site (lccoop).

I decided this was a better option then the car I had planned to restore (a very rough GD sedan). For the moment this car will be my daily driver. I have been riding a motor bike to work, but have decided it's time to get back in a car.

Some of the plans that i had for the GD sedan will be put into this car (eg the 2.6 EFI conversion).
But for now the car will have to stay as it is.
The first things on the list for it is work out what work it needs done on it (old cars are always an unknown?).

As I get some time, and after I sell my bike I'll be able to start doing some work on it.

Now you see why I gave up on the sedan when this was on offer...

I love the hatches, I don't think they get anywhere near enough love.
They have the best dash, it's like sitting in an airplane...

Yep.
All manual LC lancers are 5 speeds (to my knowledge anyway).
It's fitted with a downdraught weber. It goes quite well.
It has Sigma struts, lowered springs and discs, and handles and stop well.

Congrats! Looks great! :)
My dad also used to say that the dash looks like one of an airplane! Now that I have also one myself, I must agree with it :)

The dash has a few cracks in it, a later model stereo is fitted (so the original clock has been removed), but it still has the original steering wheel and gear knob. I'll take a night time photo later tonite, daytime ones just don't do it justice.
BTW, the alloy foot pedals have to go, they are just not my style...

really nice with all the gauges on a row. We (Europe except for the UK) have the radio in place of the Ammeter and oilpressure-gauge. Those gauges are located next to the clock in the lower center console in the 2000GT and 2000GSR models. The 1600ST doesn't have the gauges but has warning lights in the speedometer (charge - oil)

Can't decide which one I like more, they are both nice looking dashboards...

Nice buy Dave. When I saw it at Parra a few months ago I thought it was a really nice car. Yeah I agree about the comment about the dash. It was an aspect that I used to like about my old one. They're a lot better than the LA dashes we got here in Australia.

To be honest there is one car that did have a better dash, the GTO, but they are so few and far between.
But out of the main stream cars sold I think the Lancer Hatch gets the prize for best dash layout.

I've been driving this car around for almost 2 weeks now.
It's been like being in a time warp (i haven't driven a hatch in 13 years or so).

But enough of the memories, time to start modifying.
I started tonite. Out with the drivers seat and in with a Stratos. I don't know how anyone can drive old cars like these with the original seats, age has killed them.
It's comfy now

I removed the dodgy Stratos seat runners and installed the original Lancer runners. Only had to re-drill rear bolt holes for the Stratos seats to bolt up to the Lancer runners.
Both seat have 400mm between centres side to side, just like the Recaros on Galant runners in my wagon

Passengers seat will happen real soon...

I want some opinions on something I'm working on.
I haven't polished the lips yet, but silver centre with polished outers or full black? And if black matt or gloss? (The bonnet is gloss black if it makes a difference.)

Any opinions would be appreciated

Whatabout matt black with polished lips. All black with the the tyres might be too much maybe?

What about just the outer lip (the bit that gets gutter rashed) polished?
That was what I had planned if I did it.

The above pic is the 2 different ideas I had for alloy detail bits. After doing it, I don't like the closer option, just the single alloy line around the outside looks better I think?

Yeah I agree except I would go all the way to the shoulder of the lip. That way the polished bit stands out a bit moreand separates the wheel from the tyre from a distance. Just my thought.
