My 1982 Sigma Galant 2000, aka Gk Sigma with Starion engine.

Post by 4g63galant »

Hey guys, time i build a thread about my car, all its issues and all my plans. Hopefully a few of you will be able to offer some advice that will make these plans a reality.

So first the car, As far as all my hours of reasearch has shown this is a Galant 2000, It is a Sigma GK Body with a SOHC 4g63 Turbo 2l Engine. I have been able to find bugger all infomation on these cars, which is infuriating to say the least, if anyone has any info on these please PM me or text me on 0420278979 whatever is easiest for you.

This is a picture of the body showing that the body is a GK sigma

Image[/img]

And this is the engine the turbo sohc 4g63 ECI

Image[/img]

The motor is the exact same as the starion, apart from that top mount intercooler? any one have any idea where or from what that came from?

All the writing on labels ect on the car are written in japanese, which confirms a Japanese import? Under the bonnet engine maps are also in Japanese and are for a 4g63 which means the motor was from factory ( correct me if im wrong?).

Stitched into the seats is TURBO, a nice touch i thought:).

It also has Power Steering, Aircon, Electric Windows and IRS, oh and 4 wheel disk brakes:):)

The front Lip of this car, is like fiberglassed on? Dont know if it is stock or wether the previous owner has done this, but here is a picture of the front lip

Image[/img]

anyone that can expand on this front bumper and wether they are all fixed this way would be great.

I brought this car for 2200$ and the only problem with it was the balance shaft was out? so it had a mad rattle at higher rpm. So i brought it and got the balance shaft fixed. Then a few days later EPIC smoke clouds out of my exhaust everytime i stopped, what caused this, rear turbo seal:/.
Ended up paying 1700 for a recon ( dont tell me about the upgrade for 1200 i almost hung myself when i found out)

so fixed the turbo and installed a high flow cat ( old one was 15-20%) blocked.

Then the car develops a stalling, hesitating and rough idle. Blown headgasket and corroded or cracked head :/ ( compression test read 175, 175,150,178). and it has been like that while i finished school. Now it is time to fix and improve.
I have a spare head so that is going to be sent away and tested, all gods smiling it will be fine and i will get that will solve the head/ headgasket problem. Then its time to finally improve .

This is the plan,
Ive been given a skyline r33 turbo, i want to install that, not sure about what modifications will be required to do this, and advice would be wicked.
I also want a front mount intercooler, this topmount is rubbish.
at the same time a bov:).

would also like to look at going MPI anyone with a list of what you need hit me up:)

Then body wise i need to get a new LH tail light. and do slight repairs to the bumper.
Also would like some new rims, plan is Black or grey Pepper Pots, dont like shiney rims any more.
Then id like to lower it abit, what options are avaliable for this?

anyway now you guys know a bit about my car, what a pain in the ass it is to find anything about it, all of the problems its given me, and my plans for it. would love to hear what you guys think or know. This site is a gold mine of information, unfortunatley my motor is not so mentioned in here hahah :)

Got any more pictures? Curious vehicle to say the least. I've seen one of those front spoilers somewhere, but I can't put my finger on it. Are you changing the colour scheme later on?

I wouldnt bother fitting the r33 turbo they have a ceramic compressor wheel anything over 13 psi for a decent amount of time the compressor wheel explodes!!!

Hey Sigmaman Anything you want to see pics of just tell me and ill get them up as soon as i can, then you can help me solve this car haha:).

Wow those pictures of the brousure would be amazing colta51 be interesting to see.

As for the colour scheme i would like to change it to a grey or black, just think it would look mad, but realistically since this paintjob was done about 15 months ago by the last guy and looks great i doubt it would ever happen, especially considering the cost, and other things id rather do to the car.

Anyone else on Sigma-Galant got one of these? Or am i lonely:(

There's another one on here, it belongs to Lowmion (sp?)
It looks good mate, but you need to ditch the bonnet scoop and front lip asap, they look strange :P as for the top mount I'd be ditching it for a front mount as it'd probably cop a fair bit of heat from the turbo
Needs more TC06 lol

You were gonna sell it a while back weren't you? I think I posted up in your for sale thread last year. I've seen a couple of those cars in real life and various pictures over the years - the interiors are very cool. There may have been a thread in the old forum about them so might be worth checking the archives. In regards to the Nissan Turbos I have heard that too, however years ago I put an RB25 turbo on my 1.8 equivalent of your motor and even without the water cooling lines set up, I used to run 15-18psi without hassle. From memory the standard exhuast manifold was able to be modified to fit the turbo so it was fairly easy ( you can see a pic of the turbo on the motor in my build thread here : http://www.sigma-galant.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=5434 ). If you already have the turbo and it was free, I'd be inclined to use it. As for the intercooler, I have an old Supra front mount and it easily fit in the front of a GE wagon. I'm about to try and fit it in the front of a GK sedan so I'll let you know how easy it is. I saw two intercoolers the same at a swap meet over here a month ago and they were only $50 so are a cheap solution to getting rid of the top mount.

Yeah i was looking to sell it a while back during my financially depressed stage haha never wanted to, but almost had to, but now i am definatly keeping it, there is something about this car. Even though all it does is break that just makes me want to keep fixing it:).

thanks for those brousure pics, thats the most ive seen about this car in official writing yet. I want it so bad, keen to sell me a photocopied version of any pages with info on the model i have:D

Il take some more pictures tomorrow when there is better light and post them up asap:).

so with your t3 turbo you didnt need to run the water cooling lines? did you install it yourself?and im definatly going to be looking for a supra fmi, this top mount is stupid.

As for the scoop, i didnt put it on the former owner did, needed to to get clearance over the top mount, if i go fmi il be looking for a new bonnet. And as for the front lip, i dont know how id get that off , its fully fiberglassed on, il put some pics of that up as well when i can.

With the RB25 Turbz I gave the standard manifold to a mate and he dropped it off to get machined out somewhere. Didn't cost much from memory and I think the turbo hole was bigger than the manifold so it was possible ( ie. not the other way around ). I guess the downside is that I couldn't ever put the original turbo back on that manifold but it was a tiny TC04 thing that was throw away anyway. I'd heard that you didn't need to rig up the water lines and wasn't sure myself but had the car for several years and had no issues.

The front spoiler is simular to an aftermarket one that another member has on his car. The air holes on yours are just a bit smaller than his and his isnt fibreglassed onto the fenders.

The spare head i had for it is also cracked, i cant afford a new one. so its for sale again. rather someone on here picked it up as they would know what it is and not just destroy it.

anyway its got over 4 months rego, still drives but has a Blown Head Gasket and suspect the head is cracked, but you could easily drive it home just runs rough.
had the turbo rebuild earlier this year, done less than 5000km since, has a high flow cat recently installed. paint is under 2 years old. pretty much anyone who gives me a reasonable offer can take it. i cant fix it so no point me keeping it, just need to sell enough to get a car to get me to work, so ill consider any trades also.

car is in Kenwick, Perth and you can contact me via PM or just text/call me on 0420278979.

That intercooler looks like an Old RX7 One. If you put heat sheilding on your bonnet to protect the paint make sure its mint as they are prone to catch fire. You can buy the single peel of sticky one side and foil the other around somewhere and it looks great. I think it was autobahn.
