74' GB Racer

Post by yellowGB »

Well i"ve Had Her For Four Years. Basically a Daily Driver When i Bought Her. Unfortunately I Don't Have Any Pics Of What She Looked Like Then.
Notice The Sump Which Was Made After Destroying The Bottom End The Second Time.
Image
Notice The Tramp Rods Next To The Spring Shackles
Image
One Of The Time Consuming Mods Was EFI. Using An Inlet Manifold Off A 4G64 Van (The Boxy Ones).
Image
Cold Air Intake With Donaldson Filter. Note The Late Model Alternator Replacing The Shit Lucas original.
Image
Weld On Coil Overs. Already Done Whe We Got Her.
Image
The Sump. Made A Box From Stainless Steel.Cut A Section Out Of The Original Sump. Got McNaughtons To Weld It Up With Baffles Inside. A Bit Tricky But Well Worth The Effort.
Image
Note The Temp Sender. We Were Worried About The Oil Temp. In Excess Of 250 Degrees. now With An Oil Cooler Thanks To A 4G62 Oil Filter Housing & Some High Pressure Lines, Our Oil Temp Is Down Around 180 At Full Hammer on The Track.
Image
These May Be Over Engineered But Are Fully Adjustable & Cancel Out Any Tramping.

The 20L Fuel Tank Supply To & Return From Surge Tank.
Image
I Guess The Fuel System Is A Little Over Kill For Our Current Setup, But If We Happen To Put A VR4 Turbo Motor In Eventually This Won't Need Upgrading. Basically Uses Every Drop Out Of The Fuel Tank. NEVER SURGES.

Thanks For Looking. Anyone Want Any Info Don't hesitite To Ask.

Thanks for all the comments. didn't realise how popular it'd be.

Not quite sure to be honest. some of the fuel hose i bought through the workshop & some i got from Pit Crew in Newy. i'm pretty sure thats where the 1/2" stuff came from.

from memory they are commodore strut tops. unfortunately the guy i bought it off couldn't tell me much about what he'd done over the years he had it. next time there's a commo in the workshop i'll measure em' up.

thanks again.

hey mate if it was commodore struts are you running 5 stud?

I would really like to do this but as a falcon stud pattern (as drag wheels mostly come in ford 5 stud).

unfortunatelly not. They are just the strut tops which bolt on to the shocky.
If you want falcon stud patern you can get machine shops to make up hubs which bolt on to the standard stub axle.
i got a quote at one stage to change to commodore pattern and it was about $250.
hope this helps.

is this car able to be driven on the street other than events?

saw you drive it home after the king edward park hillclimb but was wondering if you were able to bring it on one of the cruises?

just curious is all

I was thinking the same thing...
There was a shortage of GA/ GB's on the last cruise..... :(

technically any use on the streets has to be specifially associated with a club event (i.e. hill climb). it can be driven outside these rules but i'm reluctant to do so. i would love to come on a cruise but realistically i'd probably attract unwanted attention from the PoPo, and its predominant use as a race car toward end of season, my old man would be less than impressed if something were to happen.

If you can't drive it, are you interested in being a passenger?
You could ride with me, or I'll sure one of the other local blokes would let you tag along.....
