Well first stage is down did some quick runs on the dyno last night with the small camshaft and isolated some minor issues which going to start sorting out. Alternator not charing properly etc.

Tonight decided to go back to the "Big Cam" which is now in and running. Won't idle under 1200 but has a real nice clean sound once you rev it up. Last night on the dyno with the small cam it pulled nicely to 7500 but had nothing after that.

With this cam I beleive it pulls better to around 8000 - 8300 which is where i wanted it to go. That 5000 stall is a pain in the backside to tune aruond but will work away at it. My dyno's not really suited for these large high stall torque converters, will need to do a lot of track tuning with the wide band and datalogging I can forsee.

Anyway probably Saturday or Monday will get back onto the dyno and do some more tuning. Changing the springs in the 38mm external wastegate to bump it up to 14 psi, currently only running 8 psi so time to start getting serious.

Been a while since I looked into rims - chasing after some stock 14" rims off the sigma range.

I need to fit my new 165/14 front runner tyres onto my Galant, but Im running sigma front brakes so it has to be sigma rims to have the right offset.

If anyone has any in Perth, let me know

Another update - managed to get the car on teh dyno breifly before we tore up the flex plate again. This was only a stockie but won't handle any of the load we are throwing at it, even at 7 psi boost.

Sent it off and now getting a SFI approved billet one made by PAR Engineering with intergral ring gear. Going to be running some ARP Converter bolts as well to keep it all together.

So end of January we hope to have the new flywheel / converter flex plate back. Then we can have another go.

finally after a long period, we have started getting the work done on the vheicle again.

The main hold up has been the new sfi approved flex plate we had made, had to have the holes laser drilled for the torque converter bolt pattern. Unforutnatly took 3 attempts by the machining company as they kept drilling them from the wrong side, and since the torque converter has a slight offset on the bolt hole positions (Due to the torque converter suppliers being slightly off on there measurements) it mean't it wouldn't bolt up properly.

Finally got that all done, and then found out that we had to make a new spacer to move the transmission back another 4mm because the new flex plate is one piece solid flat, not recessed like factory.

Finally got that all sorted out and now getting the tailshaft shortened by 15mm as its now too long. Should get it back by the end of the week and will get the vehicle up and running again within the next two weeks.

Really focusing on getting it ready for the upcoming 2013 / 14 drag season in perth so hopefully will get some good video's for everyone. Our aim is to run mid 10's and let it stay there for consistency.

I should get some new photos and video's from the car on the dyno in the next few weeks as well.

Next update will be far more interesting :)

Its Alive its Alive

Started it up today, ran through the gears and checked it out.

Saturday will test it on he road, and then if all is okay, time to go back to the dyno

Now I am getting very very excited.

well to continue my hard luck story, we got it running on the dyno, and then after 1 power run it produced 230hp at 15 psi boost (Very very conservative tune) then dropped tranmission oil

We pulled the box out and found that the torque converter spline shaft had broken on a weld and leaked fluid, damagaed the oil pump slightly at same time.

Thankfully got it repaired fairly quickly with extra welding support, repaired the input shaft and got it back into the vehicle.

Then back on the dyno did several power runs up to 275hp @ 17 psi boost but not happy. Since found one of the injector wires had broken off at the pin so was doing this on 3 cylinders.

Now all fixed up and as soon as the dyno is free again, will try some more runs on 4 cylinders.

Our plan is probably Wednesday week, to go down to the drags and do some light runs and datalogging to check the car out. Do some easy 12s runs and just check everything over and see what its going to do.

The transmission has a whole heap of billet parts. Built to handle up to 900hp behind a big v8 :)

Since we only plan on pushing around 600hp at the max at the flywheel, we are well within the tolerance range.

All the parts came from a company in the USA called SMr Transmissions - http://smrtrans.tripod.com/smrtransmissionsintro/

You can pretty much just tick off there catalogue on what we have put into this box, reverse order valve body with transbrake, billet clutch housings, input shafts etc

I was just wondering if you had changed it as it is a baby 904 specific set up and they were unreliable even in the standard scorpions the rest of the box once built is great except the standard input shaft.

We used there upgraded input shaft which is around 2" longer which forced us to space the gearbox out furhter as well as get a customised torque converter made.

Well good news yay - going down to the track on Sunday for a test and tune meet to do some runs with the galant.

Did some trial anti lag launch tests tonight and all working fine. Tomorrow night will do the tests with the transbrake system running as well and then its basically other than some mild tweaking, ready to go.

Couldn't effectively dyno it on our dyno because of the 5000rpm stall converter, so only option is to take it to the track with a rich tune / low timing and then do runs with data logging and the on board o2 sensor, and then keep adjusting.

Quite excited - haven't raced the old girl since good old 2004 back when it was naturally aspirated.

Got the NOS all ready to go, so hoping to get at least 10 - 15 runs in, and use nos on the last 4 - 5 runs with full high rpm launches.

Looking to run it in to the low 12's high 11's initially and then slowly wind it up to the 11's flat to stay in super street class.

Going to get lots of video's and maybe some in car footage as well.

Either going to come out of the track smiling or with something broken - lol and not sure which one it will be yet :D

If anyone is interested in coming down for a look or too see all the other cars doign some test / tuning will be Sunday at the Motorplex between 11 and 6.00

Feel free to drop through and say hello.

Brought the vehicle home tonight in preparation for the track tomorrow. About 90% ready but time will tell how it goes.

Check our facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Racing-P ... 3894620525 - for some updated photos. Must admit the cars starting to look great again, reminded me how small the vehicle is when you put it side by side against some other vehicles.

The car went well .... the driver not so good.

Did our first run (on video) with a very easy launch, no power 1st, some power 2nd and 100% throttle to 6500 in 3rd and backed off to check the tune.

All looked good and we planned on just doing full launch / full run 2nd time round.

idiot driver (Me) did a 3rd gear burnout instead of 2nd gear. Car proceeded to tear all three flywheel bolts out of the torque converter.

So need to this week repair the torque covnerter and modify to a 6 bolt to improve its strength, and do some minor other work. But otherwise stoked with the car and very happy with the way it felt.

I always read the updates on this even if i dont post, great work! What sort of boost are you planning on running once the car is sorted? Also what pistons are you using? Sad to hear the torque convertor issues are still happening.

The car is currently running 19 psi on wastegate pressure only. Not planning on running anymore than that at this time as we are only stock magna flat top pistons, no forgies at this moment.

WE knew we would have weak links somewhere - that's why we are doing the test / tune events to work these things out.

Converter will be modified to a 6 bolt setup so should be fine after that (And no more 3rd gear burnouts lol)

Video's should be up on our facebook page by dis afternoon

Sounds more like an alignment issue more than just bolts ripping out of the converter what bolts have you used for the flex plate to crank in my old set-up I always did top gear burnouts and had no issues.

Definitely not an alignment problem, laser cut custom sfi approved flex plate with ARP bolts.

This actually tore the thread out of the torque converter.

Either way conversion to a 6 bolt for improved strength will help and going to look at using harder material welded onto the torque converter which will then be tapped and machined flat.

I think this qualify's me to talk on this subject Shuggy as I also had the exact same failure that has been mentioned here with a baby 904. If you talk to a lot of trans guys it is well known that there was an alignment problem from the factory there is also a number of issue's if the wrong size bolts are used that is why I have asked this question.

Well we pulled the box out today and thankfully, as expected minor damage but clearly evident it has simply torn the bolts out of the torque converter.

Our plan at this stage - is to repair the damage, and refit it back with 9 - 12 bolts. Why 12 bolts? Simply because I have twelve holes due to the previous company we hired to laser drill the holes on the flex plate (Due to the material being so hard) drilled it wrong twice.

Back with the ARP bolts and we shall see what happens. Can't see it being a misalignment problem at this stage but we will go back and check all that.

Will get this sucker back up and running in no time.

But would be interested in reading more about what problems other people have had with torque converter bolts on these TF904 units. Any links?

Amendment - I had forgotten the torque converter is flat so there is no need to weld anything, just need to redrill and tap into the face.

Are you still using the standard 904 bush in the crank and what size are the heads on the flywheel to crank bolts.
