BAD-SIG - my 1979 Sigma SE...

Post by BAD-SIG »

Hi guys, I'm back again and this time, back for good!! For those that don't remember or never met me, my name is Fabio and I started the first sigma-galant website and gatherings nearly a decade ago!! And yes, I still own my light blue GE Sigma SE, the one I promised never to sell no matter what!

Sorry I've been away for so long, been through so much, here is a quick resumed version of what I've been up to:

(deep breath) while living in Frankston with my parents, got a good job, bought another GE Sigma (hemi orange), then got a better job in Ballarat and moved. The orange Sigma was giving me a bit of grief and I was earning more so I decided to sell it and buy one of my dream cars: a black mint Jap-import 1990 series 5 RX-7 Turbo. After moving a couple of times but still living in Ballarat, getting married and having a baby (girl), my dad sadly passed away (cancer) Sept-08 and a couple of weeks later the engine blew on the RX7. I counted my losses, sold the RX7 to then buy another of my dream cars: a 1973 Beetle (not Superbug). After modifying that and having a bit of fun with it, I sold it and bought a reliable EF Falcon Futura (boring I know, but I reckon it's less boring than a Holden Commonwhore).

So I still have my old faithfull Sigma. I decided to put it off the road for me and my dad to work on restauring it together but never got around to actually starting... Now dad is gone and I really miss him, we were so close and he was more than a father, a true friend. So I
ve decided to start working on the Sigma again. This way (I figure) I not only have a therapy of sorts to get over missing my dad so damn much, but I will also one day be able to leave something to my kids, something that is a part of me, my past present and future!

Anyways, I'll add some photos later. Or you can just folow the blog I've created for my Sigma!! http://bad-sig.blogspot.com/

Welcome back to the Sigma-Galant family. Your story has some similarities to mine, so I know what you've been through. Glad to hear you have remained loyal to your GE. Loyalty is sadly missing from our society these days. ;)
I'm here for a good time, not a long time !

Long time no see! sorry to hear about your dad, I remember him coming along to some of the meets.
Might even have it on video, i have a copy of one of the COG cruises we were all at, all have to find it and see if I can find it and digitize it.

Im back for good this time! I've always promissed myself I would never ever sell my Sigma no matter what. It was my very first car! And to help me restore it and find parts for it, I bought a spare GE Sigma SE with very little rust just to use for parts. Now keep in mind that I now have a family and we are saving up to buy our first house so it will take a few years to completely restore and modify my Sigma, but I don't care how long it takes or how much it costs, this is one project I will see through. Me and this car have been through so much, I wanna restore it in my dad's memory and I want something of mine to leave to my kids when I die (of old age hopefully).

I've decided to transform my GE Sigma SE to Jap-spec look, so I'm now searching for:

the front guard mounted rear view mirrors, rear quarter panel "Galant Sigma" badges and rear number plate light fixture/bezel with the word "Galant" on it. Here are the photos of what I'm after:

Well it's been a while since I started this build topic on my blue GE Sigma SE. The sad thing is the car is just too far gone with rust, but I still can't bring myself to get rid of it, it holds far too many memories. But as I mentioned on my first post, I did have a Hemi Orange GE Sigma GL that me and my dad worked on. I'm desperatly trying to find it and to buy it back. If anyone knows of the whereabouts of the car below please contact me via pm or email: 20bsigma@gmail.com. I really want to buy this car back as me and my dad did lots of work on it together and dad has now passed away and I would like to keep the car in his memory. It was sold via Ebay to a guy from the Colac (VIC) area who came to pick it up on a trailer. I've lost his contact and the Ebay auction was too long ago to show up with contact details in the sell history... The car was a 1978 Hemi Orange Chrysler Sigma GL with a mild 2.6 with Weber 34adm carby and rear disc brake diff from a GH Scorpion. It had the 3spd auto Jap box when I sold it and Volvo S40 black interceptor rims. It also had vinyl seats and aftermarket steering wheel with factory Petter Wherrett horn button. Car also had a Hornet style offset fully functional bonnet scoop.

The golden GE Sigma SE is coming along quite nicely. Engine is all back together and timming is now adjusted properly. The car runs so much better and is so much more powerful now that it has a new head-gasket (as opposed to old leaky rusty one), twin Solex carbies and Crow Cams mild cam. Feels twice as powerful as before and that's still with untunned carbies, stock twin carby factory air-box from Japan and stock exhaust with two resonators and one big muffler!

Here is the video of it running and revving!

Cool, I guess having some compression helps!
Was it this car you were considering a V8 conversion on?

That's right, this is the one, but now im thinking it's in such good condition that i might just modify the stock parts and pull the engine apart and bore and stroke it to 2.6 but up the compression to at least 10:1 and work the head too. I already have a nice high-flo 2 and 1/4 inch exhaust with extractors to go in after i get the club permit. I'll keep the engine stock for now until it blows up, but it might be a while since it's only done 98,500 kilometres since new!

Maybe one option might be to pull out the 2L and keep it aside while you but a more lively 2.6in there?
That way at any time in the future, you can return the 2L engine in there and still have a sigma with sub 100,000km original motor. Meanwhile the original low km engine isn't being hacked up.
