Ill agree with you that they looked cool. But then you hear it start up and look around for the VW Beetle near by, you dont see it and realise that the noise is coming from the Eureka car and that look of excitment quickly turns to disappointment.

Vw motors and porsche motors have the same mounts :)
Don't try to insure a 1984 Galant Turbo 2000 with RACV, they'll insist that it only came out with a super charger, and that the turbo is an illegal mod........

had the full chrome bumpers, bumper bumps, guard strips. was soo nice

lovveedddd driving that to school every day, had 10" tread on the rear, 8" on the front, i bought it for just over 4 grand, sold her for 6 (coz i had no idea back then what they were worth), saw her for sale 2 weeks later for $22,000 :( :( :(
and i included with the sale a recent rebuilt 302 cleveland that i was gonna stick in but never got around to it

My absolute first car was a GN 1986 Mitsubishi Sigma 2.6L, auto, however it was originally my sister's and when she said I could have it, it had a cracked block, at the time, I was 11 I think, so my parents didn't want me to have a car, and they weren't willing to help me get it (was in Melbourne, we'd just moved to Moe at that stage) so in the end just said to my sister to sell it.. I always wish I'd kept it though.

My second car was a 1978 GE Chrysler Sigma GL with 2.0L, 5 speed. At the time I didn't realise how relatively rare the 5 speeds were, and it was in mint condition, except that there was a 1" whole bordering the entire rear windscreen, however because it had a vinyl roof I didn't notice at first. Once again wish I'd kept it, but I was 13 at the time and so was probably too much work for me and certainly my budget... but it was one of those mythical "Grandma driving to church and corner store only" deals.. DAMN!

My third car, and by far my favourite, AE82 1986 Toyota Corolla twin cam 16. 5 door hatch. Bought it when I was 16, cost me $1000, add another $500 and I had it was rwc'd and reg'd. When I bought it, it' had 340,000kms in the time i owned it I put on another 45,000kms, 35,000 of which (minimum) was thrashed, wasn't a day I didn't redline it multiple times, burnouts all the time, handbrake turns regularly, got my license suspended twice with that baby. However by the end it was rough as, as you'd expect, and after a very near crash that would've killed me and my at-the-time girlfriend, we decided it was time to change cars. Before selling it though I had started to prepare it for a rough home-paint job, cos I got bored. I sanded down and undercoated the entire car, painted the hood black, repainted the bumpers and grille black, painted the factory alloys black but sanded the rim to look machined... now when i look back it was all very nasty, but at the time and with my budget (very similar to now really lol) i was happy. I still miss it, had so much fun with it! Intend to buy another one one day and fix it up properly!
Image
Image

my fourth car was a 1993 Daihatsu Feroza cxi soft top. 200,000kms cost me $4k. I owned it for about 6 months before I had to replace the head gasket and radiator, 3 weeks after that, the engine blew... as I had borrowed some money from a friend at the time to buy it and I was only a trainee, I flogged it off for $1500 to another friend's sister. took me nearly 6 months to get the full amount for it, she messed me about so much.. thankfully still good friends with the family but was very tense at the time.
Image

Now I drive another one of my sister's 1999 Hyundai Sonata GLS, 2.0L manual. It's gay, but it's a free car, and she giving it to me properly after her wedding in October, so yeah not bad. Surprised at how well it smokes up the tires... I can do better un-braked burnouts than my mate in their worked VT commodore. A couple of months ago after having left the car in our street overnight, i found that some little @%$*^! had poured paint stripper on the bonnet and drivers side of the car... I only have 3rd party insurance, so I've had to sand it down and undercoat the areas, and will eventually be painting it when I have some spare cash... but yeah, not happy!

My past rides :

1968 Ford Cortina MKII
Image
I was given this car for free since someone I knew wanted to built it as a rally car, but didn't have the time. I ended up not having the time or money to be able to fix it, so I ended up selling it.

late 1970s Chrysler Galant
My cousin was given a good condition Galant cause the engine started spewing out oil. He said that I could have it if we could find a replacement engine. That is how I ended up with my next car. It has an engine that would fit (Astron I 2.6L), but ended up just going with the Sigma.

1982 Mitsubishi Sigma GJ
Image
My official 'first car'. I ended up getting it for $100 cause the previous owner didn't feel like fixing the electrical problems. It also had a shonky hand brake cable and broken diif. While I had this car, I bought 2 other Sigmas for parts.
ImageImage
First parts car was a GJ wagon. Got it for $50, and the head liner was covered in Japanese writing.
Image
Second parts car was a green GK Sigma that was recently in an accident that happened in the Adelaide Hills. I think it's previous owner was a member on these forums. Coincidently, the reason for buying the green Sigma was cause my Sigma was just in an accident in the hills. Some idiot in their shit brown datto decided they didn't want to wait for me to turn right on Gorge Road, so the over took me on a blind corner, and crossing over the double lines. Ended up with driver side fender dented, and bent control arm etc. It also came with the Borg Warner 5 speed, which at the time I didn't know about it's removable gear stick. One time on Henley Beach road, tried shifting to 1st too early, and the gear stick popped out. Was stuck in neutral. Once I checked out what happened, I saw that the previous owner had just cable tied the gear stick to the trans. The reason for getting rid of it was I was late for work one morning, it had just rained, the road near work was dust, and I miss read the road. the car started sliding, I over corrected, and went straight into the gutter. It pushed the passenger side front wheel into the wheel well. The damage didn't look too bad till I tried putting in a replacement cross member, and seeing that it wouldn't fit. The chassis had bent.
Image
By the time I got rid of it, It had yellow, green, grey and red panels

Mid 1990s Nissan Pulsar ET Turbo
I was given this car cause the owner wanted it gone and out of the way. It was defected so it wasn't drivable on the road, but I had fun have a couple quick drives of it. It had a 1.4L engine, and was weak as. Once it got to 3000rpm, it wasn't so bad. Ended up just scrapping it, but I ended up keeping the turbo off it.

1989 Toyota Cressida
Image
I bought the Cressida with my mum a little while after killing my poor Sigma. It was a pretty good car, that is until my mum crashed it. What was scary was I installed a brand new Sony Xplod head unit into my Sigma, then around a week later, I crashed it. I installed the same head unit into the Cressida, and my mum crashed it around a week later.

1991 Holden Commodore VN
Image
I ended up buying the Commodore for $550 cause the previous owners drove it from Murray Bridge to Adelaide with the wrong radiator, it over heated, and blew the head gaskets. Previously I had done minor car repairs, but nothing like changing the head gaskets. It worked out ok, the car runs well, and after a couple years of owning it, it still runs today. Couple months ago I almost killed it though. Had a 6am start, was running late, still was dark, and the car battery was flat. My jumper leads had gone missing, but I had a spare battery in my recently purchased GN. I pulled the battery out of the Sigma, put it into the Commodore, but still wouldn't start. Later I realised the terminals on the Sigma battery are the opposite of the Commodore battery. it fried the ignition control module and melted some of the wiring behind the dash. Fixing the loom wasn't hard, but was a pain to be doing it on my daily driver.

1987 Mitsubishi Sigma GN
Image
My new project car. This would make it the 4th Sigma I have bought. This time it's a Astron II, 2.6L with Auto. Wanted a manual, but I wasn't going to pass it up for $150.

I can't remember, I think it might have. I thought I had an engine bay pic of that car, but I can't seem to find it. I do remember it had a ram-flow air filter though. It also had power windows and central locking.

That does look familiar. I picked up the car from just off Kilkenny Road IIRC. Since it had a tighter accelerator cable than my Sigma, I accidentally spun the wheels in the drive way.

Love the GTV

This is not an old ride of mine but one of my fathers, though it was the first car i'd ever been in

Bought New its a VH Charger R/T E49 one of the 150 built
one of only 30 or so in Orange
one of two without the horrible Vertical Stripe down the Front Guards

Image

GC75 may not remember this one but it was the first car he'd been in

LH SL/R 5000 L34 Torana, Ex Bathurst race car
The Bathurst Cars had no Radio fitted, No ariel fitted on the exterior

This was before it was restored, it was on the cover of Best Dressed Holdens magazine once it was finished

This thing was a real animal

Post by city hunter »

I've had quite a few starions in teh past. First car I bought ymself was a 86 widebody that didnt run. Had a grenaded turbo and no intercooler. That car taught me how to work on cars lol.
This is the first car 86 tsi ended up swapping a 1jz into it wth a haltech e11v2 but never finished the swap. Had it running in the car but lost interest.
Image

This was a 87 tsi I picked up out of the junkyard for 150 bucks. I got lucky and found a jyard engine with a marnel head for 150 bucks as well. After a long week fo 12 hour days on teh car I had a nice beater. I built it jsut to drift and drag, and generally beat the living hell out of. It had a fidanza, 18g, some crap coilovers, and strut bars. Ran 13.69 at stock boost witht eh 18g. Quite a fun car. I'd hit 8krpm all day long drifitng and burning out at the strip lol. I never did blow the thing up.
Image
Pic of her before I got it in all her glory.
Image
Here was my 88 conquest tsi. Did a auto to manual on it, had 3inch exhaust, lowered a few inches, s16g, then 12a, then 19c then I blew a ring out. It was a electrical lemon. I never did get it running right. I got so pissed I sold it after replacing all of the wiring harness dash up.
Image

My old 88 mitsu van. I lvoed this thing with a passion but the frame was tweaked when I bought it. ende dup selling ot in hopes of finding a better one. Been a few years and I havent ran across one. Well at least one thats decent when I had the cash. Theya re quite rare here.
Image

I've had a lot of other cars but these were kept the longest. I may buy back my 1jz shell and toss in a 2j or this 64 twin cam with forged pistons im building.

you lucky bastards. They are rare as all hell here. Probably the second rarest japanese van behind the nissan vanette. We only got one model and it was a automatic 4g64. Not even a manual trans option.
