My GJ daily, and project GE

Post by webby »

I figure it's about time I show you guys what I've got to work with, so here they are.
One 1981 GJ Scorpion, complete with modded (read: hacked) auto console to fit the manual shifter and bad paint on the roof, bonnet and bootlid. Plans after I've paid Dad back are EFI, using the Magna pistons to deal with the MASSIF loss of comp you get with a Magna head on a stockie Siggy bottom end, extractors with a full 2.5in exhaust, lowered over 14x7 +8 MA61 Supra rims and a respray, same colour. I'll probably grab either a Starion or Cordia Turbo drivers seat as well, provided the seat bolts to the Scorpion rails.

The car, in all her dented, bad-paint glory :D

And the powerhouse that is a dead stock way out of tune 2.6 lol
Info on the GE will be in the next post as either IE or the forums are having a spak attack and jerking the text window around while I type.

OK, some of you guys probably already saw this one on the old site, but here it is anyway.
One 1978 GE Scorpion that was a 4G52 manual but now is just a manual. Thats right kids, no motor. I pulled it to do the rings and valve stem seals then discovered on disassembly of the bottom end that both sets of bearings had no bearing material left, just the steel bits. Oh, and the head is cactus too. Fun :(
Plans are to grab a 2.6 from either a Magna or an auto Siggy and drop that in, using a 2L crank and a set of 10:1 92mm forgies originally meant for a 22RE Celica. Effective capacity should be around 2.4L. M7 head, a decent cam (probably one of those hot Crow jobbies), EFI and the same exhaust setup as the blue car and I should be laughing.
I'll grab a set of standard 22RE pistons after I've had the block bored just to make sure they sit flush with the top of the bores, instead of 4mm down like I've heard the standard 2.6 pistons do.
Anyway, here's a shitty old phone pic from about January 2008 to show you guys what I started with.

Overall it's in good nick, which is surprising considering it sat under a tree in an elderly gentleman's backyard from 1989 to 2007. Very little rust, and the paint's pretty much perfect, bar a couple of chips in the bootlid. Considering I bought it off a mate who used it as a paddock basher (I rescued it 3 days after he bought it) I think it's bloody fantastic.

I changed my mind
The GE will be my daily, running the EFI 2L as described in my "EFI 4G52" thread.
The GJ will run a turbo version of the 2.4 originally planned for the GE, and will now fill the role of the weekend warrior :D
So I should probably change the thread title

Okaay, my mind has yet again changed. I'll use the GJ as the daily, due to te fact it's already reg'd and has a motor :P
Anyway, update: GJ's up on blocks with the hubs pulled off to do the bearings. Good thing, too, if I'd driven it again the drivers side wheel would have come off  the outer bearing came apart in my hand.
Doing the bearings tomorrow, then I'm fixing the cam and spark timing and that should do it.

Any thoughts on running a pair of 32/36's on a factory twin downdraft manifold? I figure if it works it'll be a cheaper option than dual sidedrafts, and I'll be able to pass it off as factory to the cops

Yet another update, hmmm?
Rims go on tomorrow, along with a 2L cam (better top end, or so I've heard), a 34ADM and a custom homemade tailpipe I made up today outta a spare stockie and a stockie front muffler
I picked up a TP Magna that some silly bastard drove into a tree for the EFI bits for three longnecks of rum so that'll happen eventually.
How far does the TB sit off the firewall with an unmodded manifold? I'm thinking of saving myself $150 and a bit of effort and running a silicone u-bend to an intake pipe down to a TP airbox behind the battery.
