Got the pic to work...This is the measurement that determines if you have a narrow or wide block as far as gearbox compatibility goes. This measurement is the same for both Astron I and Astron II
If it is 330mm then you have a wide block
If it is 310mm then you have a narrow block.
These measurements and only an issue if you have a gearbox failure..and you need to chase up a another box.

Just got a call from the exhaust shop, she's ready to be picked up! Saying that i'm excited to pick it up this afternoon is a massive understatement!

Alrightey, so things are going well and the car isn't running too bad. The new exhaust has made it sound so much tougher!

At the moment it's running the wastegate pressure (5Psi), and i'm getting pininging under load at 4k revs.

I've richened up the fuel mixture a bit, and I've decided that this means that the timing is too far advanced.

I've read around the place that setting a static timing would be the best for my application, which would involve something about wiring the centrifugal weights? If anyone has some more knowledge on this matter, or an opinion on how I should time it, speak up

Are u using stock ecu

If you are using stock ignition..then you need to get a boost/retard canister fitted to your dizzy. They will re-graph it at the same time. I got mine done at Scortcher in Victoria.

Well, she's off to go get finished off a Graham West Automotive here in SA. Should be all tuned up and completed in the next week or two!

So things have been going slower than expected, but the work is now being commenced.

The turbo was absolutely done, so that's in for a full rebuild - much more than the bearings and seals that I replaced.
The turbo oil drain has been made larger to ensure no blockages/restrictions.

Distributor will be modified by the workshop - they seem to have a really good idea of what they're going to do


Will update with dyno sheet when she's tuned, hopefully by mid next week. Made 65kw atw before the work commenced

Graham West is a great workshop with heaps of experience. They have been tuning and building turbos and drift cars since importing began in earnest.

All i'm hoping is that it is back on the road in time for All Japan Day

104kw on 7psi after correction. Not bad! Considering it had 65 before it left, that's a massive power increase. Very noticeable!

And I must credit Everlast Mufflers at Modbury, SA, for their work on the exhaust. It sounds absolutely mental :p

I've got some aesthetic mods planned before All Japan Day here in SA (28/2) so I'll update with photos of that

Hey , as I will probably be doing a similar job , i was just wondering why they didn't suggest the car be intercooled .
Also have you any idea of your engines compression ratio?.

Hey! Yeah, it went really good. A lot of interest in the car

It most probably could have been intercooled, and it is one of the things that is near the top of my list of things to do. I didn't worry about it at this stage as I wanted to keep things as simple as possible, and with needing to run a balance line for the lpg converter, an intercooler may have made that harder. It wasn't too much of an issue as i'm only running 7psi. If I were to go any higher, it would definitely get a cooler.

Compression ratio, I honestly dont know. I'd say its just the standard Astron 2 ratio. If you were doing this on petrol you'd notice a significantly larger power figure!
