Marty's 71 GA Galant

Post by 71GA »

So i have been on the forum for a few years and i think its about time i put my car up. I have had three GA galants, one GC and i am part owner of a Scorpion rally car.I have owned my current GA for to three years and i have been slowly tidying it up.

These are from the day i picked the GA up for the original owner

Since owning the car i have fitted pepper pots, reset wagon leafs with custom blocks, kings springs, commodore shock inserts, vanetian and a few other bits and pieces
This what she looks like at the moment

There is still plenty of work to do but at the moment i really enjoying driving it around.

Nice 71GA (H) The Galant looks to be in pretty good condition other than a few minor dings on the drivers' side front and read quarters. Its good that it's a running car and you're able to enjoy it. They are a fun car to drive and I bet the suspension upgrade has made a world of difference on the road. Got any further plans for it?

Thanks guys, the 1300 runs pretty well but it does have a pretty serious oil leak. I have had to put a new head on and a moded colt radiator. The next thing im doing is getting some tyres for the widened steelies i have had made up. I have spare front doors and gards which i will get straight and paint up. Motor wise i want to go pretty original so i scored a 4g32(to rebuild) from 79lancer and i have the factory side draft aisans to go on too. Interior wise im going to go original and i have black door trims to go in and i will get the seats retrimmed in black. Overal the car has minimal rust and none behind the rear wheels which is rare to find. The one thing i am currently looking for is a bonnet as the current one has had some poor repairs done and the paint is flaking off.

There hasn't been a great deal of work done on the Galant over the last few months. I have made some slightly larger lowering blocks, i'm pretty happy with the height.
Image
I recently bought some 13x6 Hayashi streets which i'm slowly stripping back and polishing up and i also scored another pair of 13x6 steelies which i am also fixing up.

Haven't been out in her much lately mainly due to the cold weather and lack of heater but last week i did get out and it went really well.
Image
Have also been spending a bit of time getting our scorpion up and running again, hopefully shouldnt be too long before she is ready to race again

Had a go at wet sanding and polishing two of my hayashi wheels. Did it in the lathe which makes it a bit easier.

Wheels all done, they came up pretty well. Even with a lathe it's still a lot of work and time to get a reasonable result.
Should hopefully get some tyres this week, I'm thinking 185 60 13.Image

If there 13 x 5.5, 185 will work well. even 185/65's, could go 195's or 205's. it's your choice!

They are 13x6's but it's increasingly hard to get different sizes tyres.
From my investigating you can only get 185 60 13 and 205 60 13.
Unfortunately 185 65 13 are no longer available (except for old stock) along with 195's.

its shit. the old man used to run 185/65R13's on 13x5.5 for his GD sedan but now they are 165/65 13 on the front and 185/65 R13 on the back. the 165's are Remington steel's

205's would look mean, old school oversize. yet id put whatever is available at the time. anyways nice GA Marty!

Okay so I ended up getting some 185 60 13. I'm really happy with how they came out.
Decided to put some rego on her and go for a drive.

So there has been a little progress on the GA, mainly buying stuff. Recently i purchased some GTO/AIIGS fender mirrors of Trade Me NZ. The new 4G32 bottom end is together. I also bought and scrapped an extremely rusty colt.

I have also been busy extending the shed, which is done and I'm keen to get working on the galant.

Cheers,

Marty
