1976 GD daily

Post by RyBj »

yo! this is my sexy little beast
Image
from certain angles it looks like a show car and them from most other angles it looks like a rust bucket. but i love her and she drives amazingly, ive just installed a set of 4-1 extractors connected to a 2 1/4" exhaust and lowered king springs in the front and soon to be lowering the back with 1" blocks seeing as the leaf springs have sagged so much. The old man said hed pay for a full respray but its tricky because if i do that then ill never stop fixing up the exterior components, and once you make one part look amazing then everything else starts to look alot worse.
Image
ive taken off the hotwires and put the stockies with hubcaps back on, they look good but id love to find a set thats alot straighter than th ones i found. im going to get the seats re upholstered and new carpet, and definitely a venetian. ive also got a 76 wagon that i do doughies in, thats my parts car. ive spoken for long enough, ill keep everyone posted with my progress.

Cheers mate :) Hiding a low compression 1.6 with 1mm oversized pistons and some work to the head to tidy it up, also suspect a re-grind cam :) then ive bolted a 32/36 weber onto it and a set of extractors and a 2" exhaust, hooked up to a jap 5 speed. soon to come off the road for a tidy up and a Turbo conversion :)

EDIT: my Gal looks good in photo's but needs a respray, new front seats, new carpet and the vinyl top replaced :)

yeah i lowered mine on low kingsprings which are 30mm i think and it ended up raising the car seeing at the springs had sagged so much. do you reckon its worth getting super lows of just cutting them?

i was thinking of keeping it the same colour! i love it, it changes from blue to green in different light.
and in that case, i need to find some one who wants to buy a set of low kingsprings and also someone who has a set of superlows

Hi RyBj,
Another option is to reset your springs -better than chopping them. I had to reset the rears in my GE wagon because King "lows" all round resulted in a 50mm drop in front and 0mm drop in rear.
Got them done at Fremantle springworks -in O'Connor. Have had them in for couple of years so far without sagging or anything -I'm very happy with them.

Watch the Kings, some are good, some not so much. Had two 30mm sets sag to the extent the car was below legal height and hitting the bumpstops on normal road bumps inside six months.

The colour is original which is awesome, so im most likely going to get it resprayed in that! does anyone know reliable panel beaters/painters in perth?
and id definitely be fine with it sagging, i doubt my car with ever get much police attention, but i can understand if you went low low then they sagged it could be a problem.
whats the advantages of getting the springs reset? and how does that knock up against getting a new set of super lows?

and this is an example of the wonderful people in fremantle, on saturday night some knob jockey decided to go through my car for anything to steal, and also did a great big double foot jump on my bonnet. i popped it back out but itll need alot more work becuase its still very visible :(
