My Scorp.
My Scorp.
Below are some pics and info of my recently rebuilt scorp. its an '84 GL scorp. been painted, rebuilt engine, suspension done all around, a set of wheels.
Engine is a serie 1 2.6 astron with a sigma turbo setup, which has been bored 40 thou and fitted with ACL race series bearings and pistons. Balance shafts removed. all new timing chain and oil pump with modified sump for oil return from turbo. the sigma turbo setup has a rebuilt carby and turbo. oil cooler has been fitted. head has been completely overhauled with a mild turbo cam and double coil valve springs. currently only done 7000 kms on 10 pound. soon to be dyno'd set up like this then wound up to 15 and tuned to suit. dizzy has also been overhauled by performance ignition (scorcher) to suit carby turbo setup. boost is controlled by a turbo smart boost controller.
body has been just freshly repainted and made rust free over the last 18 months in original colour with a GJ rear end (tail lights and number plate garnish). reverse lights still to be installed. front grill painted in gloss black and a set of good bumpers i had from one of my many wrecks. aftermarket moulds which are very very similar to original as well and radio aerial has been shaved and internal one installed. debadged except for a set of scorpion stickers to go on front guards, a chrome scorpion badge for the boot lid and an original turbo badge.
suspension is pedders sports shocks all around with king spring lows. all nolathane bushes all around with upgraded front sway bar (26mm).
wheels are 16x7 speedy sirocco II's. fitted with 205/55/16.
interior has been fitted with a sports wheel and speco guages, air/fuel ratio, boost, oil temp and oil pressure. interior has also been fitted with a starion speedo, fit straight in and are very accurate. scorp speedo only went to 200 lol, so a 240 speedo was needed.
stereo is kenwood mp3 head unit with 6 inch 3 ways in original holes in front doors with 7x10 3 ways in rear parcel shelve with custom built cover.
fuel system is a lift pump from tank to a 1.8 litre surge tank followed by a low pressure carter fuel pump to a malpassi fuel reg and guage following through to carby.
brakes are freshly machined oringinal disks with ferodo xcel pads on the front and bendix metal kings on the rear.
custom number plates as well: ACH-000.
future plans are to redo the interior even though immaculate. a new set of rims and a bit lower in body height. a rear sway bar and a diff conversion, most likely a r31 skyline diff. EFI will be on the cards one day in the future but am currently very happy with the sigma turbo setup. starion seats that i have lying around will replace the front driver and passenger seats.

Re: My Scorp. Finally finished. (well they are never finished)
they are aftermarket moulds luke. they are exactly the same basically as the ones that run between wheel archs and there are clip on ones between bumpers and wheel archs. i didnt have and couldnt find an original set so i found some aftermarket ones which fit quite nicely.

Really nice. You can be proud of that effort.
Couple of quickies
What is the gizmo on the inner guard opposite the EGR???
Is the Charcoal canister the original ??? Never seen one with one outlet before.

i think you might be refering to the black box looking thing, that is the siren with built in battery so if anyone disconnects it keeps beeping, that is 2 things i forgot to mention above, it has central locking and immobiliser and alarm etc.
the charcol canister is original, it had a double outlet connection i pulled it off and put a mini filter on it so the fuel tank can breath.

just a quick update, i have sent of my set of pepperpots to get polished up, hopefully they come up alright. they will be my new set of wheels for the scorpion and i have pulled my tail lights and rear number plate surround out to be painted up. a light silver colour so they match, not tinting the tail lights or anything.

Re: My Scorp.
hey,
here are some photos of my tail lights and number plate garnished all painted and reverse lights are in. the pepperpots came up a treat and look the part i reckon. what is peoples opinion of my aftermarket wheels in the earlier pics or the pepperpots??? the pepperpots really give it that old school finish. also added some scorpion stickers to front guards, there were originally some small gold scorpion stickers on guards before paint job. replaced them with some black ones but a fair bit larger. enjoy

Re: My Scorp.
Paddles, did you ever get the Scorp to the Dyno???
The limiting factor in getting decent power is going to be the CD175 because they simply dont flow enough .

Re: My Scorp.
yeah urs have a lower profile i reckon from looks of that, that would throw your speedo out a bit as well. being the wrong tyre size.

Re: My Scorp.
as for the dyno, hasn't happened yet. only cos my good friend has a dyno, he can still tune cars on it but it hasnt been completely calibrated yet so it cant give accurate power figures. will do very soon.

Re: My Scorp.
I have just put some 55's on the wagon. When I first saw them fitted I thought they looked bloody weird.
I am use to 60's. And just going down that small ammount makes it look like the sidewall is missing.
I have got used to it now, but I still prefer the look of 60's

Re: My Scorp.
i like the look of the phat tyres on old school rims, i prefer low profiles on mags but a nice phat white wall with a good paint job is the sex IMHO

i quite like the look as well but have both sets of wheel so i can change it when i want to. lol. there is a guy around hobart here in tassie that puts white walls on to normal tyres for u. might look into it. something different.

Re: My Scorp.
White walls and two tone paint. Was all the trend in the 50's and 60's
Every car had at least two different colours. Even if it was only a white roof.
Might have to put some blue stripes on the wagon, Phase lll gtho style.

Re: My Scorp.
Paddles, just noticed that you have turned the strut tops around. What has this done for the handling/steering????
Re: My Scorp.
a very delayed reply, i turned them around for some more camber. handles alot better.

Re: My Scorp.
Hey guys/gals
a couple of updates. finally fitted the car with selbys sway bars. 27mm front and 20 mm rear. great differenece, sticks to the road alot better and less body roll. next ill be making a front strut brace.
as sigma project pointed out i finally sorted out a braided line for the oil feed line to the turbo.
also put the old girl onthe dyno. here are a couple of pics and a vid:
http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/8897/1001265.mp4 Video on the dyno.
They dyno runs were at a mates work shop called SHAW PERFORMANCE. hit them on face book if in tassie.
The scorp made 120rwkw at 12 psi. can get some more with a bit more boost and timing. will fiddle and put it back on in couple of months. i was quite happy with the effort for a 30 year old turbo setup.
