81GL's '76 GL Galant

Post by 81GL »

Hey all,

Well finally got around to taking some pic's... okay, more to the point the Gal is finally on the road again
after so many months (yeah, lost count???) was great to go for a drive in her! haha, forgot how fun it was to drive.

Quick History of the car:
Was originally owned by another member, they had brought it for spare parts but found the car was too neat to just wreck for parts (thank god! :) ) so was put up for sale on here. Noticed it one night & started thinking might work out to be a practical daily driver (LMFAO!!!! ). So sight unseen said yes, and she was loaded on a truck and brought up here. When she arrived was amazed at how well the interior had survived, not perfect by any means, but better than average. Alas the saturn was 'rather tired' - more of a smoke machine than an engine lol. Had the GH's old 2lt not doing much so in it went. Was sitting in the engine bay all of hmm, 8hr's ? with the standard auto when i came to my senses, out it came again to be mated to a jap 5 speed... and that's where it started :) hehe.

anyway... here are the pictures:

Whats been done? more than i can remember at the moment... might write that up another time.

Cheers all.

Nice, I was wondering if I'd ever see pics of your Galant?
Need under the bonnet shots...

I bought my wagon as a daily, then I bought a motorbike so I didn't wreck it driving it to and from. I also work right on the coast, like 200m from the ocean, so I couldn't stand the thought of watching it rust. So I ride the bike, and get wet, hot or blown away, what ever the weather, while the G-Dogg stays in the shed. Now I'm going to have to find someone else's shed to park it as mine is getting knocked down this year to build another. :\

Keep up the good work, can't wait to hear details of what you've done to it. And better still, what you still have planned...

Cheers boys.

Okay lets see if i can remember...

Engine is now a 4G52,
Balance shafts removed (of course...)
Running an M8 head
3mm shaved off, compression works out around 9.6:1 (still want more lol)
Adjustable cam gear - thanks to Cheater!
Manually adjusted tappets/rockers put back in as well as the standard 2lt came for now.
Pulled the distributor apart and altered a few things (mechanical advance is a lot more aggressive)
& off course the jap 5 speed.
one off extractors (to suit a triton - then cut up lol)
GH radiator & GJ radiator over flow bottle.
GH engine mounts

Front suspension:
GH struts with new shocks & kings low springs
Rear suspension:
Galant wagon leaves which have been re set (also need more lowering lol)
'66 VW shocks

Also running a GJ scorp diff: bigger & better diff as well as disc brakes (GH H/brake cable)
& the accompanying bit'sa of a tail shaft.

Latest toys are the DHLA40 dellorto's

:wank:
Freshly rebuilt & re-jetted. Staying with the 32mm chokes at the moment, plenty big enough for now.
The elusive redline manifold (which needed quite a bit of altering to suit my application) plus the soft mounts bla bla.
manifold also port matched to the head.

Future plans? haha... yeah this and that.
-Really really needs a new cam (kinda holding the lot back at the moment) & a decent exhaust.
-Also really want to put a rack & pinion set up in there... so sick of the steering in it! (oh yeah, shy of the box, thats all new too).
-Full engine rebuild is on my mind at some point too.

Plus the usual tinkering with twin side droughts :)
Will take a couple engine bay pic's when the carb's are all sorted and I've has time to neaten everything up.

By no means as crazy as some of you guys :| (haha all in due time). But its fun to drive & she keeps me sane.
Hope it wasn't too much of a bland read through that lol.

Cheers,
Nick.

Are you going to stay with these wheels?
Would look heaps tougher with a big offset, deep dish set. I'm curious how my wheels would look on a sedan. Just drive to my place and we'll try them

 haha yeah well guess you and Brett have a point there... :$

& cheers for more kind words guys.
Unfortunately the paint is starting to look a bit worse for wear these days... good excuse for a respray in the future (naturally in the same colour! love it!)

Yeah will be sticking with the hot wires for a while Dave, haha, love my little Maxxis 185/60 R13's :D Your probably right though, would look tough (i mean tougher :wank: ), with some 'dish'. all in time. hmm, might be a bit busy to race up to new'y, but feel free to drop by lmao.

no engine bay pic's yet, still too messy :)

Nick.

Just finished putting the filters on (better late then never  )

Hmm... turns out there's really not a whole lot of room there! Have about 4mm clearance from the filters to the strut tower :\
Anyway, thought I'd grab a quick engine bay pic.
