NSW Parramatta Cruise Discussion topic

Post by 75wagon »

I have been thinking about this idea for a cruise (I put it to the attendees of the Valentines Day cruise first)

Parramatta Park, no driving section just park, eat, and talk crap.

Would be better for Photos, and easier to look at other members cars.
Parramatta Park Is really large and has a circuit (but with a low speed limit) that can be cruised around.

Dates would have to be finalised but looking at Mid to late May. (Don't want to clash with Mothers Day  )

What are the thoughts on this?
Parramatta is really central for most members in Sydney and surrounding areas (Newcastle/ Wollongong etc...)

No not Bicentennial Park that's the Olympic site at Hombush.
I mean Parramatta Park right in the middle of Parramatta. It back of Parramatta Eels Football Stadium. It's huge, would be perfect. It's not far from Church Street.

pretty sure your confusing it with Bicentenial park/Olympic park.
There no designated look-out there.

It would be good for like a BBQ/picnic (but get there early)

That's the one brendon...
And you are right, we'd need to get there pretty early to secure a good spot.

I'm not sure which one you are talking about dvsfin, But the Parramatta Park I'm talking about is right in the middle of Parramatta. I used to ride around it when I was a young bloke on my pushy (that would have been in 1985 or later). It's a stones throw from the bottom end of Pennant Hills Road.

Hey Guys,

With Parra Park you would have to get there early to stop all the others from taking spots. You could call the office during the week which is on the grounds and ask whether it is ok for us to have picnic day there. I have seen many a car club there with hot rods set up. Would be great to have a BBQ and bring the kids plenty of area for it !!! make a day of it or come and park and talk shop !!!

My thoughts for you

The other thing I wanted to mention is do we make this an invitational?
Meaning, inviting mates with other cars that are similar.
For example, my brother has a MkII Cortina. It's old school, rear drive and 4 cylinder.
Gemini's, Escorts, Datsun 1600's etc...

How do you like the idea? Or is it opening it up to us being out numbered?
Let me know what you think of the idea...

I'm expecting bigger numbers for this event just because the location is central to all of Sydney.
ffire wrote:You could call the office during the week which is on the grounds and ask whether it is ok for us to have picnic day there.

I may look into this, it's not a bad idea.

What about inviting some of the new model Lancers( EVO ), I might be able to wrangle up some through Mitsubishi, can ask a favour of my brother in law who currently works for head office and brings all the new models home to try out. Send out invites for older colts etc. Make it the old mitsu club. It would be great to see others with older cars and I could organise a banner for the club so can keep it together.

Another idea I will put to you if this works out maybe making a weekend of it like a Car meet and organise this for every year around November inviting others from interstate.Interstaters arriving Friday, having a cruise Saturday and a Saturday night dinner, picnic day Sunday and swap meet. Just a suggestion but thoughts for the future. Lets get this car club some more exposure. I am suggesting end of year as it gives people time to get money and organise to get here. Each year we could make it else where and other states, I am sure people could organise to do a whole week off to do something they love. And all the Agricultural shows is an idea too.

Sorry I know this is about Parramatta. Will see if I can get any information on being there for you.

Cheers

I am not interested in cruising with newer Mitsubishi's, this came up when MCA (Mitsubishi Club Australia) members started joining and inviting us along on their cruises. I would feel like a tool driving around with Magnas etc... And I can't see EVO owners wanting to cruise with Sigma and Galant owners either.
ffire wrote:if this works out maybe making a weekend of it like a Car meet and organise this for every year around November inviting others from interstate.
I can't see this happening, it's hard enough getting members to drive 2 hours from home let alone 8 or more.

Don't get me wrong, these are good ideas, and I'm glad you put them forward. This is what we need, members who are prepared to put their ideas out there, whether they are accepted or not.

Getting back on topic, we really need more members to attend this one. I know the weather was bad on Feb 14th, and I really appreciate those who did attend. This one will be better, no one will get lost and the group won't get split up. And being in Parramatta, the potential for large numbers will be awesome. Parramatta is the heart of Sydney, and all Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle members will not have too far to travel. Plus, being a non driving event (unless you choose to cruise the park's curcuit) it wont be too much driving and plenty of time to rest between to and from trips. I will make signs and post them in the park so we will be found easily.

The other really good point to mention here is, anyone who would like ffire (ffiona) to do shots of their car, this would be a good opportunity. I'm sure that if enough people booked in shoots for the day then ffire might (haven't asked yet) do a special deal?

Who would be interested in attending this type of event, and do you have any suggestions that you would like to add?

Bobbin Head is a great location
But the reason I have chosen Parramatta is the Berowra cruise didn't seem to attract the southern members. Bobbin Head is about the same distance as Berowra.
Parramatta is central to Sydney, it's a really good location and it's huge size allows members to cruise around the park also.
I'm hoping that we may be able to organise with ffire to do some real quality pics (thinking calendars here, maybe even so footage for videos. I've heard whispers of plans to build videos for the site that will really appeal to other enthusiasts (but that's all I can say about that for now).
amgis_obrut wrote:it would be good to see a pre 90's small car show
I agree with this, pre 90's would be a good target to aim at. Are you suggesting other makes or just Mitsu?

I think the date being Valentines day was a part of that,
Most GFs/Wives dont share our passion for cars at the best of times let alone when it involves their "special" day...

And i totally agree, we have been building these events slowly with each meet!
TOYMODS events didnt happen after the first 2 or 3 cruises!
FFire has a big picture idea, but it would be along time before anything like that could happen.

It would be great for an event like this Paramatta one to be central for every one in the Sydney area,
and invite any and all Pre 90s, get some more attention, more interest and more members.

Then maybe in the future we could look at heading upto Port maquarie, or Coffs Harbour.
Then Hopefully some of the QLDs members could make it down?!

Even if i havent got the stuff sorted out with EPA i will be towing mine down to Paramatta, and would happily trailer it upto a meet with QLD.

But as i said, small steps to build interest, its going great so far!

Looking forward to Parramatta Dave!

Hi All Mother's Day is the sunday 9th May 2010 we don't want to pick this day for the Parramatta Park?.

I think sunday the 16th May 2010 would be good because the Street Machine Nationals is on sat 15th & sun 16th may 2010 at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse Parramatta only about 15 mins drive from the park for anyone that would like to go & check it out here's the web site.

http://www.streetmachinenationals.com.au

please post your feelings on this date we need to start to get this day going so we can let people no the time & date so plans can be made on in your calendars so we can let S-G members & non members this is going to happen?.

I would also like to thank everyone that showed up for the valentines day cruise to the Gong it was great to see some new cars & people it started of great top photo spots for cars & views but the weather beat us rain rain but all up i think it still was a great day for all just a bit damp??? thanks.

True, I've been waiting to see if there was some interest in this before I continued. I thought there would have been a bit more.

Hi all,

I agree with Dan that valentines day might be the reason the last cruise didn't have as many people turn up as expecting and having this one on mothers day might have the same result. Having it on the same day as the Street Machine Nationals may just work into S-G's favour if the word gets around on the other side of Parra.
Even though I know I won't have my LA there, I'll will probably try and talk my dad into coming with his GC hardtop and if it's open to other early makes I've got a mate with a mk1 escort, one with a Stanza coupe with a FJ20 N/A as well as his Stanza works replica rally car and another with a 240Z works replica rally car that might be interested. Anyone that did the ACT rally series a few years ago probably know the 240Z.

Is that a hatchback? I used to see one that got around North western Sydney (Epping) back in the day. I was red and looked awesome.

So we definitely want other makes to attend? I'm just wondering whether Parramatta Park will be big enough? A lot of people go there, might not be much room for parking.
I could stay at my brothers house the night before and get there early to secure a good spot (he only lives 10-15 mins away from the park), I would need some others who would be prepared to do similar, so we can block an area off, and we'd need an indication of how many may attend...

16th of May sounds good so far.

Thoughts anyone?
