Qld to Bathurst, in correlation to A112H "Bathurst cruise"

Post by 75glnt »

Ok.. As above states. This is for the Bathurst autofest (8th, 9th and the 10th March 2014). This gives us all plenty of time to sort something out.. And save for the trip!

So what I'll do is this;

I will do a section of the state (me being in SE qld, I'll organise the SE qld meet up spot)
if anyone from the mid qld section wants to do one. Post it on here with all details (where, and when)
And so on for the rest of the state. (NQ, western qld, etc)

Ok. SE qld;

I want a central to all areas meet point. I think Ipswich is best. Easy to get to from Warwick, boonah, toowoomba etc, and from all the coastal areas. Close to a highway. So I'm choosing goodna McDonald car park (also repco and cash converters car park) it's a good size, and right on the highway.

When.. I'm unsure yet.. I'll do a vote for the route.. Coastal route, or country route? Coastal being pacific-princess etc. country being Cunningham hwy - gundy. Gundy, south through tamworth, orange and Bathurst.. Either one. I don't care..

I'll link both routes and times. Then post a list of when and where's.

Comment if you're keen? Like I said.. It gives us a little less than a year to sort it out.. Wish me luck! :D

Here are the routes down. Quickest being the highlighted route.

The purple pin is Bathurst (the town, not the exact location :) )

The trip is pretty much 12hrs. So we will have to stay a night either at the event if we can the day before? Or a camping site?

I'd steer clear of route 1. The Ballina to Grafton section of the Pacific highway is improving but it's still a bit of a death trap in some sections.

Route 2 , via Casino I take it, is a nice route. It's 100 kilometers between Casino and Grafton so make sure you have enough fuel to make the distance. There is a small petrol station around 1/2 way (Whiporie) but it's expensive.
Also, try not to travel this road on dawn or dusk as there may be some kangaroos.

Route 3 , inland via Beaudesert, is good alternative as well.

Would also be worth getting road condition updates from a few of the S-G members in those areas. Nothing beats local knowledge...

Just my 2c worth.

Cheers.
