If you are running standard stuff why would you want too?

If all the ignition is stock DO NOT REMOVE THE BALLAST RESISTOR. It's there for a reason...

i have swap the to a gn motor and it runs on 12 and i have to bypass it so the car will run

you dont need to bypass it, you need to wire it up properly. the wires to the distributor are the same, but was it electric ignition before and after?

no it was points on the 2l that was in it and now its electric ignition and the electric ignition is droping the volts 2 6volts and it needs to be 12 volts

On a GE? You need to look at the electrical diagram. I had an electronic ignition on my GH that still ran a Ballast Resistor. Anyway Through it all away and run an MSD, you'll never look back.

I bypassed the balast resistor on my 4g32.. bad idea.
Went through three sets of points and pretty much a whole new distributor before working out it was the problem.
half fried my coil as well.

...that's what I was talking about. It will arc out points, plugs, distributor caps and rotor buttons and seriously load up the coil - and it'll do it pretty quickly :@ If the ballast resistor dies while you're on the road you can bypass it to get you home but replace it ASAP (the engine dies for 'no' reason and the ballast resistor is freaking hot you're guaranteed it has failed)

That's because you need a different resistance coil if you are going to ditch the ballast resistor !

Hey mate,

Your old set up was not points, just the older style of electronic ignition.

What is the new distributor out of? The GN? How many wires does it have coming out of it?

Nick.

sorry for the late reply i haven't had time to play the new distributor is out of Gk sigma with the motor and 2 wires

With the 2 wire GN dizzy, you don't require the ballast resistor.
The black/yellow wire (off the GE wiring harness) goes to the positive side of the coil. The 2 wires from the GN dizzy I will have to check tomorrow but one goes to the coil positive, the other to the coil negative.
DO NOT EARTH the negative side of the coil. The electronic ignition module, which is attached to the GN dizzy, gets its power from the engine block (negative/earth) and the positive side of the coil (ignition). It switches the NEGATIVE on and off to produce the spark. If you earth it, you get no spark and will probably nuke the ignition module.

Cheers.
