LB Lancer -electrical system

Hi, for the 6 years we have owned our Lancer we have been plagued with electrical issues on hot weather days (the engine just looses power and dies -again).
We completely rebuilt the engine (to standard specs) 5 years ago (done about 20,000k), and rebuilt and then finally replaced the solex with a 28/32 weber.
Can anyone explain to me how this 9volt/12 volt electrical system works?
Are there components in the electrical system that are susceptible to heat and fail intermittently?
This one has us baffled.
