!!!! Heater/fan blows fuse whenever used !!!!
In my 76 Galant whenever i try to use the fan/heater it blows the fuse and stops working (obviously).
an auto electrician looked at it and could find the problem.
if you guys have any idea on how this could be caused and/or how it could be fixed, would be extremely helpful.

OK.
You have a straight short somewhere, you've just got to find it. It might be in the fan motor or in the wiring.
You need to systematically go through your wiring to find it.

Just reading your post again....
Does it blow the fuse straight away when you turn it on, or does it run for a while then blow the fuse.
Could it be leaves and shit that has made it down your vents and jamming the fan and therefore motor?
Could just be the motor is F--k'd.

Re: !!!! Heater/fan blows fuse whenever used !!!!
Most likely the electric motor is stuffed because:
1. The bearings are stuffed, not letting the armature spin freely.
2. There is some debris in the fan stopping it spinning .
3. The commutator's all clagged up causing a direct short across several of the windings.
4. Some of the windings have shorted together because the insulation has died.
Another few things to check would be the switch in the dash or the "wire resistors" in the fan box (used to control the speed). Either could possibly short to ground, causing the fuses to blow.
Cheers.

In that time that it is running, does the motor sound healthy?

Re: !!!! Heater/fan blows fuse whenever used !!!!
One more question.
Does it blow when you run it at full speed?
Does it blow when you run it at full speed?
This could be it if it doesn't blow while on full speed, because the fan runs unresisted. So what I'm saying is it could be the switch....Superscan811 wrote:Another few things to check would be the switch in the dash or the "wire resistors" in the fan box (used to control the speed). Yeah got one, I'll bring it 2 moro. I'll have to take it out of the heater box and test it first though. If it works you can have it for $10?
