Continuous +12v wiring.

Post by mooey1232003 »

I'm wiring a head unit in a colt galant and was wondering if there is a +12v wiring from the fusebox i can use? Or should i connect it directly to the battery with an inline fuse in between.

Look for the "Clock" circuit at the fuse panel.

Cheers.

There is no clock circut on the fuse panel.
It has:
Upper(R)
Upper(L)
Tail
Clearance
Wiper Washer
Heater V-Reg
Turn-Back
Lower(R)
Lower(L)
Hazard
Defogger Ant
Stop Horn
Parker Room
Cigar Radio

But can i connect it directly to the wires that the clock is connected to?

Get yourself a test light.
There will be constant positive, ignition positive and earth ( or neutral)
put the constant positive straight to the battery with a fuse.
put the ignition positive to a positive that onlt turns on with the ignition (hence the test light)
and the earth to the body.
Done.

Hazzard and Stop/Horn should be 12v constant.

Yip the wire from the clock is +12 constant. So I'm going to connect the head unit to there and have the head unit ignition wire connected to a switch. I'm just wondering if i need a fuse between the constant +12 from the clock to the head unit?

Yes you need a fuse.
You're better to run a wire for the constant straight to the battery, then you don't get interference or power drop when what ever else is on the circuit is running. eg if you hooked it too your wipers, or blinkers.

If you do this you are likely to get interference from the wiper circuit while driving in the rain.
That's why it's best to draw the positive straight from the battery. No interference or power drop.
