Car only runs when key is turned half way

What kind of problem do I have if the car only starts and runs if they key is turned halfway between on and start? Was told it could be ballast resistor but just wanted to see if anyone else has had any similar issues. It's not my car it's a car I'm wanting to buy but it's quite far away so I wanted to know what I'm dealing with before I go look at it..

Sounds like ballast had exact same.problem

Could be a dodgy ignition switch?

Would be my bet too. Sounds like the contacts in the switch barrel are shot...

Yeah, I had a dodgy ignition that when cranking, the ignition wire wasn't hot, until you stopped cranking..... pain in the butt. Check the power outputs on the ignition switch, or try another if you can get hold of one
