Need shopping list for h4 conversion

Post by 75glnt »

G'day guys! :D

I'm after a parts/shopping list for a h4 conversion in my gb :)

I've already got the obvious bits;

-H4 inserts + bulbs

All I'm after is the electrical side of it :)

-fuses/relays
-fuse/relay circuit board (surround thing :P )

Also need to know how to wire it up. A hand drawn one will do :)

Thanks guys :D

If they are standard H4's you wont need relays.

But if you want them, just work out where you want to put the relays and work from there.

I used a "project box" from an electrical shop to hide mine in, and i used 7 core trailer wire for the wiring instead of having 10 wires all over the place

Cut and end 3 of your headlight sockets, by that i mean cut them off, tape them up and hide them in case you need them in the future. If you havnt got new H4 sockets then make sure you leave some space to join the wires or buy some ceramic ones (like $5 on eBay). Remove and store the fuses for these lights.

Then the last headlight socket, make sure it is a high/low (outer) one, and cut the socket off and use that as your relay triggers. Use 2 x 40A double post relays, normally open. You can put in a changeover relay if you never want both filaments in the H4 to be on at the same time while you trigger high beam but its not needed.

Oh an of course, make sure you know which wire was low, high and earth.

on your relay you have the numbers 30, 85, 86, 87 & 87. If you have an 87a you have the wrong relay. Lets call them R1 (low beam) & R2 + R3 (High beam)

30 is power direct from battery. Use a heavier guage wire. I use a huge wire direct from the battery to a distribution block next to the alternator on the strut tower and run all my relays from a bow there.

on R1 you connect the original low beam wire to 85
on R2 & R3 you connect the original high beam wire to 85. you will need to split the wire to feed bot relays
on R1 & R2 you connect 86 to earth, or the earth wire from the original headlight socket if you desire.
on R1, both the 87's go the the low beam post of the new globes
on R2 & R3 both the 87's go to the high beam post of the new globes.
on each of the new globes, connect the earth side to, well, earth. I did these individually to the body next to the headlight.

good luck

Cheers mate!! :D

I had to read it twice to understand it :P but I got it eventually :P

I'll be running quad halos which the rings just run through a switch. The rest are standard h4 inserts :)

I like the distribution block! Brilliant idea! :D

Thanks heaps and that's everything I needed :)

You can hook up the halos to a relay from your park lights if you Want?

Yea I was thinking that... Or just a seperate switch all together :) then I can run them whenever. With all lights or no lights :) but something to consider none the less :)

I bought mine as a kit. No chopping of the stock loom so can go back if ever needed.
I will PM the person I got them from, in case he doesn't want to sell 30 of them, lol
