GA Galant Lights - Compatibility with other models

Post by gaPhil »

I've heard a rumour that the headlights from GA galants are the same as a model of the ford bronco or f250? in the states.

Can anyone confirm this is correct? Or any other car.

Upon searching the net, the only common square headlight i can find is a 7"x6" light. The GA head light seems to be wider than this.

I know they are are Stanley type light. There are some sort of model numbers on the back of the light but i cannot read it on my set. Is anyone able to read it on theirs?

It would be great if we could find aftermarket lights that fit, i really dont want to convert to the GB front!

Back in the 80's, a bloke told me that TD Cortina headlamps could be made to fit.
Unfortunately, they are probably like rocking horse shite now as well :(

I haven't found anything either - although I don't need them to work on the khana car!

cheers

The headlight issue pops up a lot when you're talking about the GA galant. I think you'll find there are no direct replacement/fitment headlight assemblies for the GA, so ages ago I ran a thread on modifying the GA headlight into a H4 halogen assembly. The example I converted was off a Honda Elite scooter but the method is the same - http://www.sigma-galant.com/viewtopic.p ... ght#p64062 Obviously no good if the headlight is smashed but if you find a dead one at least you can return it to service...

Have you tried Mk1 Escort headlights ? Dunno about dimensions, but they are a small rectangular light.

(although personally I don't know why anyone would want to keep the crappy stock GA headlights ..... :P )

This is why he's asking the question. He wants to keep the appearance, but doesn't want to be the 'Lord of the Darkness' anymore.

Can anyone confirm the the F150 lights will fit? New lights with the H4 set up, is just what Phil is after.

These are 190mm x 130mm

These are 185mm x 130mm

I am very surprised they are different from L200, Triton and Lancer. It is very un-like Mitsubishi to change them for one model. Anyway, I am sure there would be a company in NZ making aftermarket headlights for them. Have you tried our NZ members or asking on the various FB pages??

Interesting
Those F100 lights have curved sides (just a bit)

The GA's are dead rectangular 4 perfectly straight sides.

as far as I know there is nothing the same as the GA Galant headlight's. I have inquired about getting a set of mine done to take the H4's. they would pull it apart, fit the bracket in for the H4 then re-chrome it and glue the glass back on. the only thing is how well the glass is stuck on in the first place as to weather it would be broken upon trying to remove it. which in that case you'd be up shit creek... I cannot remember how much it was going to be to get done.

here is their website, they are located in SA

That is the long and expensive way to mod a headlight to a H4 assembly (not to mention risky). The glass is held onto the backing case with some serious epoxy resin! It would require a steady hand and a mini grinder wheel to cut into the epoxy to the point where you might be able to pry the glass free. It might be worth having a locator hole cut into the backing case to allow the fitment of a parking light... After some fresh chroming and some good H4 globes they will be killer headlights (H)

If you can find a rectangular halogen light that is close in size (if not exact) then if you mount it carefully then no one would ever notice anyway.

they actually heat the surrounding up with a hot air gun to soften the glue, that usually gives enough to be able to pry the glass off. depending on what has happened to the glass before and how well the glue is still holding the glass on depends on weather they crack it or not.

That's a GB you tool.
Note: GB's have parking lights in the front beaver panel. GA's are parking light free.

all good, was mainly just clarifying for anyone reading etc.

I will admit I do like the GA front, but the standard light's (light output wise) are just shit to say the least. the standard sealed GB light's light up better than the GA's do. I just drove around with the high beam's on when I was running the GA stuff.

Nope, those aren't going to work. The GA headlights are bigger and are perfectly rectangular in shape.

Remember there were at least 5 different faces for the KE70 (4th Gen) in its short life, lol.
